Was it ever entertaining? I just saw some dumb internet outrage over "wokeness" in the game and then the release date came and went and I didn't see anything else about it ever again.

Why play anything besides 2 these days? That one rocked!

From the gameplay I watched, it just seemed kinda dated and the characters weren't very likable. IDK about "woke" but they kept talking about drinking "mugmosas (mimosa in a mug)" and how they only do their outrageous crimes to pay rent.

They doubled down on the larping, what most hated about the series because they wanted to make it clear that Saints Row was now a kids cartoon to them, and hence most of them got fired for loathing those who did not like how they changed the series.

Yeah I only played iv. I def wanna go back and try the others tho. IV was a lot of fun.

I honestly don't see that as being an outlier compared to SR3 or SR4.

The thing is that the Saints mocked the kind of stuff like the Larpers in 3 and 4.

I'm saying they become what they use to have contempt for in earlier games, though its not the same pepole at this point.

Like they very much do not have actual contempt for something when they make large portions of their games based on just doing that thing. It's just parody.

Honestly, no one who played the original games was going to like it. It was a pointless reboot.

The game itself might not be bad, but no one wanted a new crew. No one wanted a poke at millennial or zoomer culture. We wanted another gritty gang war drama with a zany overtone.

It's a game made from 2011s standpoint and feels awful. The jokes are atrocious, the gameplay is poor to completely average and almost nothing is fun.

Yeah Saints Row 2 was the absolute best at keeping the outrageous and the serious together. It was perfect. 3 onward just completely fucking lost it. I didn't like any one after 2.

You know, I liked the SR games, but I was never a super huge fan of them. I think I might try the new one for shits and giggles since it's free and most likely stop barely a quarter of a way through.

And for me, I've always thought many put the SR series on too high of a pedestal. Not saying they weren't fun, but they were always kinda goofy and felt unpolished in parts, but some of these clips from the new one makes the old ones look like GTA 4 with how goofy it is.

Yeah if you got it with the PS+ then give it a try. The controls are terrible though. They just feel so sluggish
