Do you ever do that?
Maybe you just feel like watching Automatic Mario and then you get a bunch of other videos people have done with the songs? Or you revisit an old fad only to find it's not only alive, but high effort videos are still coming out pretty frequently? Late 00s Japanese internet looked like fun. I wouldn't trade what we had for it, but still. Can't help but feel I missed out. --- Still waiting on that third threat ... Copied to Clipboard!

https://youtu.be/9dxiTuPy9dQThat's one of the go-to choices for sure. There's a Chargeman Ken cover of Kumikyoku that went up two years ago as well. Somehow went under my radar. There's a live version of Kumikyoku and Ryuuseigun where people dressed up and met up in a public building to sing. I showed someone that a while back because he wanted to know more about Nico Nico. --- Still waiting on that third threat ... Copied to Clipboard!

You know what might be a neat collab?
One of the OG Japanese medleys, but all the sources are our stuff from around that time. CD-i, Over 9000, Dr Robotnik, Jack Black and his Octagon, Volvic, It's a stone Luigi, Billy Mays/Vince Offer, Team Fortress 2. Stuff like that. I want to see the timeline where Japan and America accidentally went home with each others' shopping bags in 2006. --- Still waiting on that third threat ... Copied to Clipboard!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoEtm31JjjgNo. I mostly mean the videos with MAD in the title. Stuff like that's pretty far removed people painstakingly making the dumbest videos possible, trying to elicit confusion and an affection even the viewer doesn't really understand for a while. The video you posted is just a <30 second cut of a streamer playing a game and yelling. There really isn't much distinguishing it from a regular Twitch streamer over here. --- Still waiting on that third threat ... Copied to Clipboard!

There's a Chargeman Ken collab video that I very specifically remember being uploaded. I got up, thought "Hey, it's the day! The anniversary day where they post a bunch of new videos each year!", rummaging around and finding it.
The video is 10 years old. It really doesn't feel like that long ago. Hmm. --- Still waiting on that third threat ... Copied to Clipboard!

https://youtu.be/fkqWDrjItrA?si=1r_xh5o3ljuVh6TnThe first time I watched this, I was just sitting there going man I don't know any of these. Except Forest Maze, Mario World and Okkusenman, because they're like free spaces. I don't like the thought that if I'd been more curious instead of happy with recognising a few, I could have discovered some good stuff years sooner. I had Marisa Stole The Precious Thing stuck in my head from time to time for years before I eventually found it again. --- Still waiting on that third threat ... Copied to Clipboard!

I really like Japan's dedication to cataloguing and celebrating their old fads.
A lot of it is like constant accumulating reinterpretations of the same limited source material. Although with AI, that's probably going to become more and more niche. I just heard a character with maybe 10 lines of dialogue sing a song. There are a couple of medleys over here that try to do the same thing for Youtube it's not on the same level. And using them for collabs isn't as big a thing here. And popularity comes and goes so fast for things here, it takes a while to identify what actually has the staying power. --- Still waiting on that third threat ... Copied to Clipboard!
