Spiders simply sense when something else gets into their web, but roaches are hard to hit once they know someone has a shoe or poison. Heck, one of my favorite things about (90's) Venom is that he was the one of the few entities that could bypass Spiderman's spider sense (because the symbiote already knew about it).
