Nintendo has revealed even more details about whats new in the Switch remake of Super Mario RPG, including an Easy Mode and SNES music option. This comes from the newly-opened Japanese website.

For those who are more interested in the story and arent as interested in battles (or a tough experience), theyll be able to select Easy Mode rather than the Normal Mode. You can switch between the two modes at any time.

Something else confirmed for Super Mario RPG is the ability to choose the original SNES music. Once again, this can be toggled at any point in the options menu.

As another new feature mentioned on the website, enemies youve seen so far get recorded in a bestiary.
During todays Nintendo Direct, it was also announced that post-game boss rematches will be included.

Easy Mode? The game already is Easy, just don't use Mallow or Bowser when you have Peach and Geno. There, Easy Mode.

With any luck, easy mode increases the timing on successive jumps so I can get the super suit without driving myself cray.

Probably not going to use that (the game was easy enough for me already) but I guess some people will appreciate it.

Neat. I'll probably give that a go to find out how the remastered music compares to the SNES original but I imagine I'll leave it on the remastered music otherwise if what I've heard of it so far is any indication of the overall quality.

I welcome multiple difficulties. It just seems like it could use a harder mode too.

It's a rare instance of a bona fide "people will complain either way" game.
The Japanese script was already odd. Then the translators made a number of changes and gaffes.

I don't remember it being particularly hard, but if it means more people play it then bring on the easy mode

The game was easy enough as it was, but the addition of splash damage for successful action commands as well as team attacks just make it even easier. Do bosses just die in one hit in Easy mode?

Will Booster be missable I wonder? I think you have to fail his minigame to fight him.

Maybe they adjusted enemy HP to compensate. Although if they did that then it just makes you wonder what was the point. Guess we have to see what other changes they actually implement. I also could see them toning down some of the really OP moves like Group Hug.

If "easy mode" is starting with both Lazy Shells in inventory, oh hell yes.

The Mario & Luigi spinoffs cover this, in that timed hits become mandatory at some point in any given game.

I'm curious if this is easy mode relative to the original game, or if this game is going to be more traditionally balanced to make the normal mode actually challenging, relative to the original. The whole damage all the enemies thing would already make the original way easier, so it must be fairly rebalanced for that alone.

i'm afraid normal mode is gonna be too easy. like mentioned the original is already easy. pretty sure speedrunners beat it without any optional battles. so normal people can run away from half the encounters and still easily win. i don't think they're gonna balance the game with the splash damage. would love a hard mode but nintendo won't ever do that.

I don't but I hope they remember why people liked the SNES game so much. It's possible to be reasonably accurate to the Japanese while not being boring and I hope they do because it'll make or break the game for many people, myself included.

It's short for 'bride-to-be ring', aka an engagement ring. The original localization team was short on both on-screen room for text and time to make better translations for many of the items. That's definitely one of the areas the remake can improve on most substantially and I'm confident they will.

In the Direct they said it have a post game boss rebattle feature. After you finish the story you can go back and visit every boss in the game for a rematch and I'm assuming they are way more powerful. So there is at least that

Culex isn't that hard if you get to the right levels and know what you're going. There's definitely room to make him harder without making him impossible.

I abused the hell out of Red Essence and Peach's abilities in general to deal with him. Seemed pretty hard to beat him legitimately. Of course I could just be bad.

I can't imagine how much easier the game would be on Easy Mode when they added "properly timed attacks damage all enemies" and powerful triple tech moves. Not unless Easy Mode is the original game's difficulty and they made the normal difficulty harder to balance out the new stuff.

Yay! Just like the FF Pixel Remasters, they have OST toggle. And adding a bestiary is always cool.

Shit, there's certain items that require you to skip bosses to access. How are they gonna deal with that?

Easy mode is an odd choice, but I don't have a problem with an optional difficulty. I wonder how normal mode is though? I do hope there's increased difficulty in the remake that makes easy mode make more sense.

The other features sounds great. OST toggles are always great in my book.

Videogame companies really need better PR.
If you insist on having multiple difficulties, start from Normal and go above.
If you must have an easy mode, call it by what it is: Game Journalist Mode.

100 Super Jumps is the most intense boss in any video game >_>

Yeah, if you dont fight Booster you get the Amulet, and if you don't fight Dodo 1, you get the Feather. There's no other way to get those accessories.

Oh, right, Feather. You'd think I'd remember that better given that I've watched enough speed runs.

Yeah, probably just tie it to the fight as well. If they change it.

I only learned you can fight booster 20+ years later when i was playing the game on my phone, touch controls being awful i missed the minigames 3 times and fought booster and the snifits... shit blew my mind...

Literally the only thing I could not get in the original game. I spent so much time trying to do it. No one I knew who played that had the super suit.

Eh, I had more fun doing things the hard way. Though yes that makes defeating Culex way easier.

Speaking of which, I wonder how he'll be in the remaster?
