The fascists in Wisconsin are doing everything they can to cling to power. We're seeing the consequences of that state house (or was it state Senate?) race back in April the Republican won in that one that helped the party maintain control.

Can't give these people an inch, or they will take it and fuck you hard.

They lost the State supreme Court and are scared.

A cornered fascist is dangerous.

I'm not going to speak for another poster, but the Federal government is obliged to ensure civil rights in the states, and what the GOP is doing in WI is so undemocratic that a good argument can be made for Federal intervention.

It's obvious. Same logic as in the 1950s vs. the Jim Crow states, with the tweak that the WI GOP is illegally disenfranchising non-republicans, instead of blacks.

Ahhh the US really needs better civics education.

As much as I'd love to see the WI GOP get an extremely short haircut, you can't just mobilize the national guard whenever they upset you.

Moreover, what would sending in the NG actually do? This particular thing isn't like in the civil rights era where you'd send them in to protect certain people or forcibly desegregate schools, like where there was a function they could fulfill.

If the newly-elected judge is removed by a GOP impeachment for no cause, that is something that the NG could remedy at gunpoint.

But I am certainly open to a late 1860s approach if that's what it takes.

Southernfatman, you're absolutely right in that voting may not be enough for us to stop the fascists. In order to destroy their ideology, we must constantly prepare for the worst case scenario while living our lives as best as we can. Also, be sure to cut ties with any relative or acquaintance who happens to support Trump and the Republicans. They can never be counted on to do the right thing.

This. E.g., after the civil war, the former Confederate states were under Federal military occupation for years.

GOP apologists would have us believe this was "fascism", but everyone else knows that occupation ended far too early.

There's a simple answer to this and it's having strong national protections in federal law that the state cannot nullify.

Look at the stupid ass shit DeSantis is doing in Florida. He can do that because he's got majority control over the whole legislation. All Democrats need is to get that kind of momentum at the federal level.

And the removal of this official is a real problem, since the GOP plan is to replace her with a GOP stooge that will let them steal elections in WI.

I think we're at the point that pretty much every election in the future is going to be tainted by all these controversies
