The fascists in Wisconsin are doing everything they can to cling to power. We're seeing the consequences of that state house (or was it state Senate?) race back in April the Republican won in that one that helped the party maintain control.

Can't give these people an inch, or they will take it and fuck you hard.

Wisconsinites have expressed concerns with the administration of elections both here in Wisconsin and nationally, said Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu. We need to rebuild faith in Wisconsins elections.

But numerous reviews have found that the 2020 election in Wisconsin was fair and the results were accurate. Biden defeated Trump in 2020 by nearly 21,000 votes in Wisconsin, an outcome that has withstood two partial recounts, a nonpartisan audit, a conservative law firms review, and multiple state and federal lawsuits.
it has already been determined by various reviews, including a conservative one, that the 2020 election results in Wisconsin were accurate so now they use their numbers advantage to try and force an election official out

It's obvious. Same logic as in the 1950s vs. the Jim Crow states, with the tweak that the WI GOP is illegally disenfranchising non-republicans, instead of blacks.

Ahhh the US really needs better civics education.

As much as I'd love to see the WI GOP get an extremely short haircut, you can't just mobilize the national guard whenever they upset you.

Moreover, what would sending in the NG actually do? This particular thing isn't like in the civil rights era where you'd send them in to protect certain people or forcibly desegregate schools, like where there was a function they could fulfill.

If the newly-elected judge is removed by a GOP impeachment for no cause, that is something that the NG could remedy at gunpoint.

But I am certainly open to a late 1860s approach if that's what it takes.

It's so obvious that they're taking over the state and being anti-democratic. And do you think the civil rights of many people aren't going to be affected in Republican controlled states? You're right though, better just let the fascists win. So what's your solution then anyway? You can't just say "go vote" because that's what Wisconsinites did and look what's happening.

Evers saw firsthand the impact of GOP control of the redistricting process when he ran for governor in 2018. That year, Democrats swept all four statewide races and won 53 percent of votes cast for the state Assembly, but the party retained just 36 percent of seats in the chamber.

no, but the federal government overreaching to illegally influence state business isn't far off from fascism itself. could even give the future fascists a legal precedent

Southernfatman, you're absolutely right in that voting may not be enough for us to stop the fascists. In order to destroy their ideology, we must constantly prepare for the worst case scenario while living our lives as best as we can. Also, be sure to cut ties with any relative or acquaintance who happens to support Trump and the Republicans. They can never be counted on to do the right thing.

This. E.g., after the civil war, the former Confederate states were under Federal military occupation for years.

There's a simple answer to this and it's having strong national protections in federal law that the state cannot nullify.

That's not it. No system of laws or checks and balances can withstand the sustained bad faith of the GOP. The GOP needs to be voted into oblivion before they seize power in a coup.

That takes more time. National Law is a more realistic and faster goal.

Look at the stupid ass shit DeSantis is doing in Florida. He can do that because he's got majority control over the whole legislation. All Democrats need is to get that kind of momentum at the federal level.

If not, then a second civil war may be unavoidable. People will not surrender their liberties and rights quietly. And sadly enough, thousands of lives could be lost in the battle against fascism.

And then never lose Federal office again. Strong Federal law vs. states does no good if the GOP controls the Federal government, since it would just give them more tools to use to seize power.

In other words, we need the combination of sustained political impotence of the GOP + better Democrats and laws to make progress. Better laws along aren't enough.
