Back when Tea Partiers was in vogue the rationale was that they were independents.
The reality was they faithfully voted Republican on major issues. Because this is just who they are. The media loves hyping Nancy Mace up as a "moderate", playing audio clips of her saying some decent things, and yet she just votes like every other Christo-fascist, so her words are worthless compared to her actions.
