In all my years of gaming, I've never had a controller develop drift on me that I can recall.

This gen my joy con drifted (now fixed with a halls sensing replacement stick) and now my ps5 controller is drifting.

I am way more inclined to buy cheap 3rd party controllers now since the propriety ones are shit anyway and 3x the cost. Unfortunately I don't see cheap knock offs of the ps5 controller though.

Guess I need to plop down $70 plus tax for another piece of shit that will break on me

Just buy an elite series 2 and RMA it until you get one that doesnt have issues out of the box. Once you get a good elite series 2 youre set

I've had drift with n64, 360, Xbox One controllers, so it's not anything new.

Although joycon drift does seem like a problem that is occurring much faster than it ever should be based on what I've read.

One of my two PS4 controllers has a wonky R-Stick. I can use it for some games, but not others. Can never use it with Call of Duty, as I will be running/aiming and I will randomly turn 90 degrees to the right without touching anything

I went through 6 GameCube controllers for drift, but I was too young to realize that it was the console port some how ruining them.

My 360 controllers are still good from launch, albeit worn out from so much play.

My 360/PS4 controllers are mint but low hours.

No current gen stuff, but I got a Steam Deck. The sticks work fine, but they're not as good as the PS4/360/XBone

No idea how this phenomenon even happens since I have 3 Dualshock 3s with drift but the 4 and Dualsense have been alright after more than a year.

Logitech gamepad for PC still rolling since 2015 but it hasn't gotten as much mileage so idk if that matters.

A have a GameCube controller with a left stick that's worn down on the top with just hard plastic remaining where you put your thumb. Still doesn't drift though. Never had drift with official PS, PS2, GCN, Wii U, or PS4 controllers. I have four separate joycons that I've sent in for repairs for drifting and have all gone on to start drifting again.

Seen that before. Can't confirm if it's a solution but you could apply a replaceable 3rd party thumb cover on the white stick.

Yeah, I blame Sonic Riders. The part of each track where you have to spin the control stick as fast as you can to still not move half as fast as the cpu players. It eroded the hell out of the control stick (and my palm). It's not a super important fix for me though. I rarely use the gcn nowadays and it isn't that uncomfortable when I do.

Xbox 360, DS3 and DS2 are the last generation where controllers lasted seemingly forever and took a ton of punishment.

Ever since then it's been noticeably worse, yet the price of these things keeps skyrocketing. Xbox One, DS4, Xbox series controllers, all start out fine but after about 6 months to a year something will happen to make it useless.

Had several Xbox One controllers in a row get stick drift around the 1 year mark, and one had an issue where the B button just stopped working. Decided to try DS4 instead (on pc) and it lasted about 6 months before getting bad stick drift.

Been using series controllers the last couple years, the first one I had lasted a year before the R1 button lost its springiness and stopped working. On my second one now, I think I got it in January.

I've had drift on some cheap knockoff PS3 controllers and a cheap PC gamepad, but never on an official one. I don't own any current gen systems though, unless you count handheld PCs (I have Ayaneo 2). I do have a PS4, and I have an XB1 controller used for PC gaming, no issues with either of those.

With the stuff from PS3 era onwards, relative low use and taking care of devices could explain it, but there's no comparable explanation for PS1 and PS2.

Stick drift has always happened but it is way worse now. All the big video game companies are now making the building process and what's in the controllers as cheap as possible. Dreamcast controllers rarely had drift issues since they used hall effect sticks. Hall effect sticks are no longer used in 1st party controllers (and most 3rd party controllers) since they cost a little bit more in manufacturing.
