Fresh as can be off of finishing RE6 and moving straight on to Revelations 2. I've always heard pretty good things about this game in passing, but I didn't care for the first Revelations so expectations tempered.

I know next to nothing going into this, but I think I recall hearing Barry's in this and if that's true, well it already scores some points with me. Very curious to see where in the timeline it takes place, what characters are brought back and how much it connects to the first Revelations.

Your partner, when ai controlled, can tank a lot. You can like throw them at enemies and switch before theyre attacked.

Its weird.

Alright good opener with a cheesy commercial. "Because 'terr' doesn't always have to end with 'ist'." Wow.

CLAIRE! (my favorite) Hell yeah. And new girl Moira. Barry's daughter. Second game in a row where Claire gets captured at the start and wakes up leaving a cell. Wasn't quite as bad ass as Code Veronica. Already glad we're going slow and establishing a tone here. Knife. Every playthrough topic I'm required to bring up how the CVX knife is GOAT.

Camera's tight, but not claustrophobic. Game looks pretty good. This wasn't a 3DS game right? But it was on the Vita? I did think about playing it on the Vita...

Alright so we can switch between characters kinda like Zero. Don't share weapons or herbs it seems. Also weird Moira just has a flashlight, but the blinding into a combo bit is fun. Aiming seems solid and you can RE4 it with headshots into stuns and then big melee prompts it seems. Digging it all so far.

And the knife is good! Claire's the best.

Also like the healing system. Holding down a button saves from accidentally clicking it and also takes some time so it's not like you can just pop 'em mid boss fight no problem. Really like that you actually get to see them use the spray can for the first time.

Hud is real nice and clean. Inventory seems solid with being able to pass to your partner. Could use a map maybe just to keep track. The map and getting from A to B was one of the things I had a big problem with in the first Revelations.

Seems you can easily kill these intro enemies with one bullet to the head, a knock down and then just knife.

Moira can't even pick up guns. I suppose she doesn't seem to be a trained solider or anything so that makes sense. But if this is 2 players, all she can do is use the flashlight to blind? Maybe there will be more to it.

Yup there we go. Flashlight can find items and apparently hidden graffiti. Also she gets a crowbar now and there's even a story reason why she doesn't like guns that sounds trauma related so cool. What did Barry do?

Map! This game keeps responding to everything I say so far. Great first impression.

Think I'm gonna do most of the walking around as Moira since she can find goodies. Ah Claire can see the goodies too, she just needs Moira to shine on 'em. Cool.

Oh and actual documents to pick up and read like it's a Resident Evil game. GOOD.

Stealth takedowns. Dodging seems decent, but haven't tried it out much yet.

Yeah there's a LOT of call backs to other RE games. Curiously I've been told this is only in the English dub. I don't speak Japanese but apparently the references were something that was added in post

Almost died at the fire trap door cause I thought I was just doing the crowbar door opening wrong. Minor hiccup.

Barry time! Wonder who his partner is gonna be. Chris was his old partner ya know?

Creepy little girl. That's a surprise team up.

Yes, we get the python with Barry right out the gate.

So little girl has sensing powers and can squeeze into tight places and throw bricks. Can also spot hidden goodies so I'll be controlling her for most of the moving around.

Is there really no way to zoom out and view the entire map? I'm already a little lost, but if I could just see the map I could figure it out.

Little girl's voice acting is good which is a relief. So far she seems sweet and Barry's being nice and supportive. If the whole saving Moira thing doesn't work out? Eh new kid to try out.

Wonder if Moira remembers being kidnapped and held hostage by Umbrella from RE1. (don't tell me either way, just posting speculation) Was never sure if they were actually being held or if Wesker was just like "Hey we got guys outside your home so you better help fuck over Jill."

Doesn't seem like enemies drop items or any points.

Note about some Russian dude being experimented on with his brother getting his limbs torn off in different ways. I won't keep on it, but fuck was this a big thing missing from 6. It's just a little flavor. Lets you know what happened here and gives you a sense of who you are going up against.

Wow! This dark thick big woods area is fantastic. Real rough to see and a good amount of brush in the way. Reminds me of the RE1 opening cutscene. Great location.

Cool new enemy where you have to blow away parts of their body to find the big weak spot. Could get annoying, but it's a good idea.

Uroboros connection! So RE5 was a could years prior to this. Rev 1 was set a few years prior to 5. So this either takes place between 5 and 6 or even after 6. Maybe I can get to see what Jill looks like now. See if she lost the stupid pale skin and blonde hair look from Wesker's bimboification fetish.

Another note saying a woman "saved" the prisoners, but is more like the devil. Probably the one Claire & Moira are dealing with. Gonna guess she's an escaped experiment.

Oh I just realized the little girl has a bracelet that's red...which a note earlier said was pretty bad.

"Master of unlocking". Alright Barry. Easy now. Don't Rogue One this.

Oh man. 6 month gap between Claire and Barry's times. Kid knows Moira and says she's dead. Great ending.

End of Episode 1 and I gotta say I'm loving this whole game. The only real flaw so far is the not being able to see the entire map which is a weird choice, but other than that I really like everything else. Gameplay, the switching between characters, atmosphere, story. It's all doing it for me. Much more so than the first Revelations which had some good ideas, but was bogged down with really bad writing, annoying traversal and the bad dodge mechanic.

Think I'll call it there and pick up with Episode 2 tomorrow.

Oh I really like both Revelations, but I think I enjoyed 1 slightly more than 2.

No story spoilers, just regarding Barry's presence:
Barry plays a major role in the game, he is the lead playable character in the second storyline, though in both storylines there are two characters you can swap in and out of to solve different situations.

Yeah, that's a cool section.

Met up with some side characters and thankfully they're not annoying. Not too annoying.

Great cabin defense section. Having bars on the windows where you have to run back and forth to protect them has a great spinning plates feel. Similar to blocking stuff in 4 or 5, but those always felt real flimsy. Plus you can knife guys through the bars to really save on time and healing. Why is Claire so good with a knife?

First example of something getting so scurred they turn into a monster. Having Pedro use the drill to help us leading into him being a big tough drill enemy's awesome. Tough too. Spent almost all my handgun ammo trying to escape.

Gigantic evil tower. Mutant dog enemies with gas mask like faces.

Not sure how I feel about the bleeding and blind effects. Add a level of difficulty for sure, but kinda frustrating, especially with such limited resources. Moira or Claire getting cut while I'm trying to dodge enemies is a bit ehh.

First time having to split up to solve a baby puzzle. Hope they do more with this system. Zero had one or two decent parts where you had to split up and control both characters.

Boss battle against a fat boy throwing fire. Pretty basic bullet sponge.

Damn I liked Gabe. No body on screen in the chopper explosion so he'll be back in one form or another.

Hey note from Gabe 6 months later. Don't trust Neil for the record. Too clean cut. Probably involved.

Wow the guys with the blow away skin where you need to find the glowy area to shoot? You can see the weak spots before they're exposed with Natalia. That's good shit.

Uh oh. Invisible monsters? Last game did have invisible hunters. Pretty tough. Can see it being easy on split screen. Do seem to go down easy, but fill a room with these fucks and some of the big guys and that's gonna be a problem.

Oh god no. She's from Terragrigia. Don't talk about Terragrigia. I just hate Terragrigia. It's such a dumb place. That being said Barry really feels like RE1 Barry and that's impressive considering he hasn't been around since REmake. He's so straight laced and gruff, but kinda lame in a good way. Big dad energy which is perfect here.

I'm so glad I'm playing as Claire and Barry. If you could have asked me to pick 2 RE characters I wanted to play as most, this very well could have been my pair.

Lot of exploring in these big areas, but it's rewarding. Almost feels like TLoU-light with the crafting. Getting a piece of cloth here and a bottle there. Downside is I just lost about 15 minutes of working my way through the rundown apartments because I had to get past one of the invisible enemies to unlock a door for Barry. Thought I could hit it with a brick, but fainted and game over. Shame.

Pedro's back! And his front. Every side of him. Thankfully Barry is MUCH better equipped to handle this than Claire. Plus little girl pointing out the weak spots is huge. Easy.

And this corpse looks like Gabe's. Another mention of the "nice guy" from TerraSave.

"T-Phobos" virus. Also found a note earlier with a woman going crazy with her husband's decapitated head so...yeah. Now a note about someone (guessing the Overseer) hating their father who wanted to take over the world. Some Umbrella shit maybe. Or even that dumb terrorist group from Rev1. Hope not. His own "son". Sickly. This person's the offspring of Spencer aren't they? Wesker being the "son" who he had created. Love it.

Aw shit Wesker! "Alex Wesker"? We dealing with Wesker clones baby. Why is this so much more a RE sequel to 5 than 6 was?

End of Episode 2,

Loved it.

Tag. I recently played this game a couple months ago. The first section of the game made me question whether I was playing a Resident Evil game, or a Silent Hill game.

Once you have finished story mode go and play Raid mode. It is far superior to RE1's in every way possible.

Raid mode will keep you going for absolute ages. I have all the female characters leveled up to maximum.

Long day, but would like to clear an episode tonight if I can.

I can actually hear the Wesker tone in the woman's voice now. That posh accent.

Got a new strategy down where I play as Moira, blind an enemy, Claire kicks 'em down and then Moira stabs them on the ground with the crowbar. Gonna save on some ammo here.

Took me a minute to figure out how to get the key from the room with the spiked ceiling. Feel dumb.

Great escape from one of the buildings with a ton of enemies closing in. Only got hit once to stepping on a pus bubble. Thank god the dodge actually works in this game and it's actually super consistent.

Awesome timed explosion switching back and forth to clear the way between the characters. There was a puzzle at the end with about 2 minutes left to solve it and I just got lucky and guessed correctly.

Claire & Moira complaining about grumpy ol' Chris & Barry. Old man in the sewer entrance. Wonder what sorta monster he'll turn into for Barry. Moira hates guns and made a mistake. Did she shoot her sister?

Sewer fight was rough, but luckily I saved up plenty of ammo. Those big guys with the metal masks and the big axe thing are a real bitch. Constantly making whoever I'm not controlling bleed. Take a ton of shots too. Wish there was an easy way to deal with them. So far only thing I've found is a stealth attack. Maybe the blind, roundhouse crowbar will do them in, but couldn't pull it off in the high water.

Proper puzzle here in an underground graveyard.

Easy. Looks like that was optional too and got me a new gun. Sweet.

Claire crushing on Neil, but Moira pointing out his bracelet never changed color. We already know Claire's got awful taste in men.

Hanging dead body in an office. Good atmosphere. Stuart, one of Alex's man servants. Why's he calling Alex "Master". Shouldn't she be "Madam" or something? Talking about a transfer process and a vessel. Guessing Alex wanted to go into Natalia's body and use her ghost powers.

Lansdale? FBC? *googles Landsdale* Oh that fucking dork. So Neil was one of his cronies and Alex turned on him after she got what she wanted.

List of candidates for the experiment. Let's see, Neil including himself at the top? Odd. Claire obviously. Gabe RIP. Gina, I remember her at the start. Moira. Pedro RIP. Natalia who doesn't seem to fit the rest, but she was in a home after being "saved" by Terra Save so I guess Neil took her from there? And Edward Thompson. Can't recall coming across anyone with that name yet. 3 other names crossed off.

Real good looking CGI cutscene with Neil turning into an Uroboros hulk. Love how connected this game is to 5. I need to refresh myself on what Uroboros was made of. I think they mentioned it was a combination of like the T-Virus and Las Plagas. Not sure if the G-Virus was in there or the Veronica one. There was also the dumb leech one from Zero. That one I forget what it was called. And the Progenitor Virus? Think that was just...the start of the T which led to G? I need to do some homework and freshen up.

Anyway, boss fight time. This is Claire's second love interest that has turned into a giant mutant monster. That's really fucked up Claire. But I'd still risk it.

Raid mode is alright but not as fun as Mercenaries Mode is.

Rev 1 was ok, kind of like a low budget RE4. Couldn't really get into Rev 2's campaign, but its raid mode is a LOT of fun. I would have liked to try more characters but by the time I unlocked them Barry was so high level that I couldn't be bothered starting over.

Decent boss fight. Great ending with Moira saving Claire by using the gun. Also flashbacks seemed to confirm it. Moira shot her sister and Barry made her feel even extra shit about it. Liked how I was able to piece that together based on some throw away lines earlier.

3am and don't think I'm gonna start Barry now, so until tomorrow.

Game is GREAT. This is seriously the best Resident Evil for me since 4. It's super tight across the board. Having a blast.

Also were these episodes released in parts like Telltale games? The first games were kinda shit and short sometimes, but so far all these have felt meaty as hell.

Old sewer guy's dead, but I guess he's gonna run into Moira and Claire again. Poor guy had a rough time, but at least he went out of what appears to be old age. Monsters didn't tear him apart and he didn't get infected to turn into some mutant.

The part where Barry and Natalia had to go through the sewers opening the doors and switching back and forth is the first real part of this game where I feel like it would have been much better with 2 players. Wasn't hard at all, just slow and kinda tedious.

Why can't Natalia go through doors and keep her bricks? Is she stupid?

Made it outside. Massive mining area.

I can't believe Moira's fucking dead.

This ain't the best episode for Barry. First the slow sewer door part and now the slow moving the battery around part. It's not bad, just kinda dull. Not very tough to figure anything out or anything too challenging. Boss had what I think may have been an insta-kill grab so got got by that. Also Natalia is strong as a bill carrying that battery around.

Barry got yeeted and then Alex got shook.

So Claire's section was aces, Barry's was kinda meh with two back to back long slow parts, but to be fair I am scavenging every nook and cranny of the map for items and really taking my time. So it's probably a fourth of this length if you just go forward.

On to the last episode!

So the whole reason behind the fear tests is because Alex needs to transfer her mind into a younger healthy body, but they have to be able to handle themselves under extreme levels of fear. Sure why not. If that's the case, boy Claire would be pretty perfect given all she's went through.

Alright well...Alex killed herself. Not sure why. Maybe it's like a "transferring your memory into another body" idea where she uploaded her consciousness now, so anything she does in her current body won't transfer over to the new one, thus she views it as pointless to go on with the current one? Or maybe she just needed to actually die in order to do it. I'd have stuck around if I didn't need to die to make sure everything went smoothly.

Oh jesus. Died to an invisible enemy and had a gnarly death animation where the flying bug snapped Claire's back in half, dropped her body on the floor and then just dumped a bunch of smaller bugs over it. That was unexpectedly brutal. Also not sure how to beat the invisible bugs without Natalia.

Wow I made it out of the countdown with 3 seconds to spare. Oh shit nevermind. Moira got fucking crushed.

Died cause I didn't want to leave Moira. I didn't even hit X at the cliff. Game automatically made me jump. Very short episode, but hell of an ending. Hope it's somehow a fakeout, but if it is it's a super effective one.

This game is obsessed with the word sluice.

Another pretty slow low action low thought puzzle section with moving this crane along. Don't remember any of the areas in the first few episodes being this slow and now Barry got 3 pretty much in a row which is a shame. Even the Claire & Moira sewer part had a lot of enemies to add pressure.

Hmm. Alright how much of Alex is transferred inside Natalia?

Deadly gas section in the mines was more my speed. Hard to see where to go, maze-like, enemies coming at you. Good area.

Aw jumpscare got me good. That's very rare. Making my way back from getting a key (so shoulda been prepared for one) and a monster fell from the ceiling right in front of me. Thank god the dodge is so strong.

Cool ass fight. Way too easy, but fuck it. Awesome. Stomped that bitch. Happy days. Natalia adopted, Moira alive, Claire looking badass. Great stuff.

And that's Resident Evil Revelations 2. Some of the sections in the last 2 episodes were a bit of a slog, buuuut I loved it. That was a great modern Resident Evil game. I actually enjoyed the switching gimmick. The story was totally good for an RE story with the right amount of cheese and fanservice. Barry ruled. Actually really liked Moira and Natalia. Claire continues to be the best. Wish she got a little bit more in the end, but this was Barry Burton's show in the end. Well earned.

This one's probably going to rank very high on my list in the franchise. Probably above 3 and Code Veronica even. IDK if I could put it over the original RE1 though. But even still, that'd make it in my top 5 so far.

Not done yet since we've got the "extra episodes". Not sure what those are or how long they are, but I will probably do 'em tomorrow.

The Struggle

Ohhh it's what happened to Moira in the 6 months. And old guy's the partner! Cool.

Retries cost rations so I gotta hunt for lives? Weird, but I'm down for a gimmick DLC.

Killed a lot of bunnies with a crowbar. Made it to the end with plenty of time to spare.

Alright now it's a raid mode sort of thing, but with a story and dialog. I'm cool with this. And god the dodging is so tight in this game. It's actually more consistent than 6's. That allowed for a lot more, but this keeps it simple. Also the powered up crowbar is pretty damn strong.

Good thing the combat's so fun in this game.

RIP Evgeny. They did a really great job in making that little side story. Moira and the old man worked well together and like I said before, this game's fun to play so aside from the one stealth section this was a pretty fun extra bit of content.

Time for Little Miss. Guessing this is either Natalia before everything on the island or maybe her time between Claire & Moira and Barry.

Alright so now I'm thinking this takes place after everything else and it's Wesker taking over Natalia's mind leading to that post credits scene. Which would be a real shit ending for everyone sadly. Especially since I doubt any of these characters show up in 7 or 8 lol.

This is some good comedy with Lottie just guilt tripping the shit outta poor Natalia. I still like how outraged Natalia was when she found what Alex did to her. It's like the most upset she got all game.

Yeahhhh...the story's kinda funny, but this ain't the best time. Stealth in any Resident Evil has been inoffensive at best. This is still pretty easy, but impatience gets me caught and it's just not fun.

Natalia fighting back against this lil bitch version. Hope this just ends with her punching her and calling her a motherfucker.

Well alright. That was meh. Weakest part of the game. The Struggle was quite fun. This was different and did do something new, but didn't go hard enough with it or offer much to chew on.

With that Resident Evil: Revelations 2 is in the books. Great game. Next month is the game that made me start this entire journey through Resident Evil 5 years ago. Resident Evil VII in VR! Looking forward to it.

There is still Raid mode to check out, but I'll do that down the road. Looks like I got Wesker & Hunk unlocked for it. Probably gonna be fun.

Raid mode is the best part of the game, and the best version of it in the series IMO.

The Rev 1 raid mode is super great if you have a partner though. Getting all those trinity bonuses.
