I have no problem with hecklers being banned but the face scanning shit, if true, is the dumbest shit ever. I'd never show up to a place like that lol

I go to Last Stand's shows all the time. If you haven't been, check out the shows at Monk's Jazz Club on the east side. It's BYOB and the room is only about 20x20, but it's a fun show even if the host isn't very funny at all.

Just checking back on this topic but I live real close to Last Stand and go there all the time, maybe we'll run into each other.

Yeah maybe. Last Stand is about 10 minutes from me, but we've been going to Fast Friends and the Nomadic Outpost more often lately, just because they're newer to us.

Looking over the list of comedians that are performing there, I don't really know how "anit-woke" is really is.

Colin Quinn, Tom Segura, Alonzo Bodden, Yannis Pappas, and Reggie Watts are hardly what I would consider "Woke Comics".

Maybe it's just a regular comedy club that just happened to be owned by someone a lot of people "on the left" doesn't like, so we make up stuff to make it out to be worse than it actually is.

I'm all for shitting on Rogan, but AFAIK taking your phone so you can't record the show is something that happens at a lot of comedy clubs these days. Face scans are just insane though.

It's already been established as to why it is done.

It's not so the "anti-woke" comics can tell their right-wing jokes without fear of the joke leaking and them being "canceled", it so comics can workshop new jokes or structure their shows because they're on the verge of recording a new special, and they don't want all the jokes out there before the special premieres, ruining the special for many people.

And it's not just comedy clubs and comedians that do it. It's happening at concerts and Broadway shows. I'm sure "alt-right" Lin Manuel Miranda does it at his shows so his "anti-woke" performances aren't spread.

Perhaps the one great equalizer left in the world is when everyone in an audience, Anna Wintour included, is forced to hand over their phones and pretend to be okay with that for 90 minutes of theater.

At a Broadway performance last fall of Freestyle Love Supreme, a superb hip-hop improv show co-created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, I was told to place my smartphone in a Yondr pouch, a soft contraption that resembles a beer koozie. It remained hostage in my bag until after the event, when attendees lined up to have them set free by an usher carrying a special unlocking tool resembling a kitchen gadget.

Idk why I find it so crazy how many people are just okay with venues taking your phones.

They don't take them. You have them on you at all times. They "lock" it in a bag that you carry, and they have kiosks all over the venue to unlock them if you need to use your phone.

At least that was the case when I saw Kevin Hart last summer. You just have to have them in the pouch when you're at your seat.

I have no interest in going to the Jim Breuer Comedy Hour or whatever other chud comics that would perform at a place like this.

I have no plans on ever going there, considering it's in Texas and I live in NY, but the lineup really doesn't look any different than the larger, high end comedy clubs you'd find in NYC.

I have been (my office is 6th Street so it's literally a one minute walk) and outside of the more popular touring comedians you see at pretty much any comedy club in the country it's mostly a great for our smaller local comics in Austin, who I can assure aren't the anti-woke crowd lol.

For touring comics, it's the exact same people you're going to see at the Paramount theatre or cap city comedy in the domain. If you wanted to open an alt right comedy club in Austin you'd be out of business fast because you're gonna be relying on out of towners for most of your business.

Why are you being a dickhead? They're related but not the same. Crowd work is usually initiated by a comedian, heckling is by its very definition not.

I can't imagine why anyone would attempt to conflate heckling with crowd work and then double down on heckling being a good thing.

If you can't handle both, you shouldn't be in comedy.

To anyone that wants heckling at comedy shows, have you ever been to any? I go all the time and I can tell you I don't pay to listen to the hecklers try to derail the show all night. Even if the heckler gets shut down, it affects the show. No hecklers isn't a policy for the comedians, it's for the audience.

And I've been to Rogans club, it's literally a block from my office. There's still crowdwork at every show I've been to. The difference is there's a banter, it isn't some drunk asshole shouting throughout the entire show.

And the most successful ones still bomb. They still have bits that don't land at all, and it depends on the type of city or crowd. The reason nobody sees it is because stand-up specials can still be edited.

It just comes with the job.
