Like I admit I don't know much about the case either and I'm sure a lot of people were fond of the guy, but 30 years seems kinda low, if anything imo. >.>

(No mods, I am not trying to circumvent the new rule. I wanna talk about the topic, not the user)

Edit: 30 years being too much time is what the other topic said. I think I instinctively put it as not enough in the op.

Especially in the case of that topic, where the crime may not have seemed outwardly graphic (for lack of a better word) so that it was somehow inherently not as bad.

This is clearly not what the topic was hinting towards. Legally speaking, 30 years is a crazy amount of time for what Masterson was convicted of. Im not saying that he shouldnt be punished that much or advocating for his defense. LEGALLY speaking, 30 years is almost unprecedented unless what Danny Masterson did in order to r-word his victims was especially heinous in nature. Thats all Im saying. Many rape cases receive far less time, thats why I thought it was odd. But of course CE is quick to white-knight and condemn any nuanced discussions.

If I had it my way, all rape cases would be punishable for as much time as Mastersons but they are obviously not. The topic was about that.

Its not moronic because any time that comparison is made, its for the purpose of advocating for longer sentences for murder, not the other way around (less time for rape). Both deserve long sentences. The point is, if youre going to give a 30 year sentence for rape, why would you not make that the standard for all murders? Its not about making sentences lighter

The topic title was literally "30 years seems a bit extreme for rape".

If the purpose of the topic was to advocate for higher sentences for murder, maybe lead with that.

Relative to other sentences. Maybe read the entire topic instead of just the title. Just an idea.

When I was young a friend of my brothers was found to have been raping his little sister for several years and got like 7 years for it, was out in 3 or 4. Crazy large variance in punishments for crimes has always been an issue that bothers me.

Also I would have to agree that I think 30 years to life is too much not because of anything about the specific crime but simply because I believe that we should be using the preventative detention model with an initial sentencing cap of 20 years and life sentences shouldnt be a thing at all.

That topic was obviously not intended to discuss the length of murder sentences, what a flimsy excuse. Its deletion was entirely deserved.
