I cant imagine late millennials and zoomers have any interest in traditional TV.

Does anyone still subscribe to cable (besides for internet) or satellite?

Cable is the only way I can watch my local sports teams due to blackout restrictions, so I have no choice but to have it.

What service you got? And do you have a physical box? Because with a physical box they last like as long as they aren't manually deleted, or your DVR doesn't go over the limit for too long.

That's it for me. Was I a bit behind everyone else online watching the Lions@Chiefs? Sure. But that doesn't matter, because I didn't have to watch a single commercial or half time at all. Pretty much everything recorded. It's the best.

Worth it, to me.

Cox. It's like a cloud box if I understand it right.
They changed the length of time about a year or two ago. It's even in the options now when you record, letting you know a year is the max

What I'm getting from this topic is that, if there was even a remotely reliable way to get ALL sports for a decent streaming price, cable would basically die.

It's not even all sports, it's mostly just local sports (and blackout restrictions associated with them) that's the problem. If my family could watch Cardinals games on MLB TV and Blues games on ESPN+ (which includes NHL Power Play) like it lets us watch the other teams in those leagues, that would be enough to get my family to switch off of cable in favor of some sort of streaming option. But due to the blackout restrictions, having cable and watching the games on Bally Sports Midwest is literally the only way for us to watch these games, so we're forced to keep cable.

Local sports and blackout restrictions are pretty much all that's keeping cable alive at this point.

In a fire. Hell, when T-Mobile 5G gets into my area, Xfinity is dead to me. Might dust off the old cap and sail here and there, but I can finally be rid of Comcast.

Right. That was mostly what I meant by "all sports," since it's fairly easy to find out of market sports. The local stuff is the issue.

I still have my Sky TV satellite TV service.

I need it as I like to watch the Formula 1 races on Sky Sports.

If it wasn't for that I could easily get rid of it as I hardly watch TV these days and the other services it provides I can get online or on my Xbox or my Samsung Smart TV.

Up until about 5 years ago or so, i could split my modem cable to my TV and it'd be free (low tier) cable

It's such a garbage service.

Lowest stream settings just so they're not technically lying.

So no greater than 720p and an abhorrent bit rate.

No, because sports blackouts occur specifically to make it so that you can only watch X local team on Y local affiliate. So, for example, if you are near Pittsburgh, you can ONLY watch the Steelers on Local Affiliate X, and, for example, if you're near Pittsburgh, but don't get Local Affiliate X, then the blackout stops your Local Affiliate Y from showing the game, and that extends to streaming/etc. as well.

It's a very bullshit system.

The only way around this is to pay for the NFL Network, but to get the NFL Network, you gotta have cable or satellite in the first place.

And you can get your local affiliate with streaming.

By the time you do both of these, you're pretty much paying as much as cable, to begin with, is the problem.

The latter, in particular, is the problem. Streaming local affiliates typically requires either an active cable/satellite subscription, or a subscription to something like Hulu+Live TV, which is expensive in its own right.

That's only true in certain areas. When I lived in eastern Kentucky, for example, which was a very hilly area, you couldn't get hardly anything via antenna. When I lived in Ohio, which is mostly flat, you got more.

If I added up the cost of all the streaming services I would need to replace DirecTV, it would be a financial wash, especially with services like YouTubeTV jacking up their prices every other week
