I imagine it depends on the college, but if you drop out of a class after the deadline, what happens? I was told it'll be taken out of my financial aid (roughly $500), but I have no idea how much grant money I'd be receiving after that. Yesterday was the last day to drop out without consequence, but given the situation with my laptop, I cannot keep up with my math and am strongly considering dropping out and just staying in one class. Both are online classes.

Your GPA will take a hit and you can go on academic probation. Discuss it with your advisor, because after the deadline its the same as failing a course. Other than that, you'll just have to tough it out and try to pass the course...

If you drop out of a class after the deadline, you will die. Someday. Not usually right away.

At my school, if you drop after a deadline, it has a [Withdraw] grade on your transcript, which is neutral. And you do get a partial refund, but the later you withdraw, the less you get >_> And if you wait a couple of months, you cant withdraw at all

You should be talking to people at your university. This depends on the university and often the program. Talk to an advisor or the course's professor, they will put you in a better position than any post here will.

Discuss this with an academic advisor ASAP.

See if you can get an "Incomplete" vs. "withdrawal/drop" if that protects you from a financial aid hit . You are expected to complete that incomplete though. May need to get a Dean involved. Different things work at different schools. Good luck.

Talk to financial aid. No clue what it's like where you are, but at my school, you would get a grade of W (withdrawn). You keep your financial aid and it doesn't affect your GPA. But what it DOES affect is your, "success rate."

If you fail or withdraw from too many classes, you can get put in Academic Probation, where you basically have to convince your financial aid advisor that you're actually gonna try if they let you back in. I used to do work study in the financial aid office, and they were pretty strict about it, too. Like you can't just say, "my bad i'll actually do homework this time." They wanted documentation on why you failed so much, and what will be different this time.

This is not true in my experience, not in fuckin September.

You're probably past the deadline to drop it without a W on your transcript/get a refund, but you almost definitely can drop it and have it not affect your GPA.

In my situation, I never saw a reason to drop classes. I don't care about my GPA (I'm nowhere near failing out of school) so I would rather risk it all and maybe pass with a C. But I understand some people want to keep their GPA up.

I don't think you understand the severity of my situation. Not only am I unable to study properly (and my local library is too active), I don't know most of this math material at all.

maybe the instructor can help, talk to em after class and explain your issue. College professors will help but you have to tell them, if you don't they assume you got it...

I emailed her a week or so ago and she didn't respond. Tried again tonight, hoping to hear back tomorrow.

It is different at different places. However I would talk to both the professor and the adviser, before you do anything else.
