They did get kind of rowdy on CE (which is the only board that seemed to partake in them) but the decision to restrict them seems to be rather arbitrary. I don't think any one topic set this off.

I concur. One of the only good things about my last job is when someone was terminated HR would send the entire termination package to IT to notify us to disable the account, meaning we could see why someone was fired and sometimes they were pretty lulzy.

Fights, drunkeness, people throwing hissy fits and saying they can get work anywhere.

It was an HVAC company so they were hiring techs who were certified, which tended to give them both high turnover and a tendency to hire people with a pretty high sense of self-importance.

One dude I was told to onboard with double-time maximum priority when he got hired (he was apparently offered the job on the spot and they weren't even going to do the background check until later) only for him to get fired about 30 minutes later for crashing the van they gave him the keys to. Another guy worked for two days with no issues then showed up on day three stone-ass drunk (that one was actually pretty sad as the manager who picked him up said he was very remorseful and ashamed of himself, saying he's had this happen at least three times that year already so it was obvious he had a serious problem).

You can still literally go to someone's account and look up their status if they're that important to you.

Whether or not a random user gets banned shouldn't matter to you at all, so there's no real reason for anyone to call attention to the fact.

And let's be honest, it's not like it really matters anyway, since pretty much everyone who gets banned just makes another shit gimmick/trolling account 5 minutes later anyway. So you'll see them again in a few days.

We've been pushing for more consistent rules, and this is one of those changes tbh. The Warned/Suspended user topics have always been a hotbed of harassment and trolling, and so with the push for greater consistency we are going to be tightening up on some things and loosening up on others.

Because everyone here knows those topics were inherently toxic and trolling, no matter how much some want to try to spin it otherwise.

The point of removing those topics is to cut down on harassment. If you disagree with our moderations I'm sure you'll find some other way of vocalizing that without needing to create a whole topic to dump on a user you don't like.

Gfaqs is the only forum I've seen that cares this much about modded users. Everywhere else I've been, the trolls are banned and that's the end of it. What makes gfaqs so much worse?
