He's not the only dude with a sharingan... Surely someone before him copied some shit and is more deserving than the guy who lucked into a magic eye.

I mean technically speaking by the start of the story the only Uchiha left were Itachi and Sasuke so the Sharingan would be pretty rare.

He is weak at using it. While the uchia could also copy they had their own innate techniques that were superior to the ones that they could copy. Notice how even sasuke kinda drops copying new ones after a while and most of the ones he copied in the past while it's a main stay of kakashi's style.

The uchia saw that as a useless trick after their style matures.

He wasn't an Uchiha, which is what made him unique. He copied their power, then copied everybody else's power.

The Uchiha have their own signature jutsus like special fire attacks, genjutsu, and Mangekyo abilities. They can copy others but are likely too prideful to stray very far from their natural affinities; all of the Uchihas featured in the story mainly use their own genetically inherited or personally created jutsus rather than copied ones. (Sasuke copied Kakashi's Raikiri but even then renamed it to Chidori and used it differently)

Kakashi is a unique case where he has the eye but no knowledge of the actual Uchiha secrets, so he's stuck mainly using it for copying.

he used the Sharingan as well as any Uchiha (better than most), but couldn't use it for as long due to it not being his real eye, so it sapped his stamina.

he was able to use it for genjutsu, to master his Raikiri, and even open up Mangekyo Sharingan abilities.

They really screwed up on the Sharingan. For one, revealing that Kakashi has one in the same arc the existence of them is first mentioned is just lame. Kishimoto could have built it up for a while, then it would be a huge shock for a non-Uchiha like Kakashi to have one.

He really did virtually nothing with the Sharingan's abilities of copying ninjutsu, or being able to read movements. So Sasuke was able to handle Naruto's rage mode because he could follow his swings, big whoop. Wow, the eye so strong it let a genin defeat a slightly faster genin! Lame.

He should have kept the Sharingan as an eye/vision enhancer, and made the other Uchiha techniques not reliant on the eyeball itself.

I think it's more interesting to reveal it when we don't really know what it is, then show that Sasuke has it, too...then show us what it's truly capable of when Itachi shows up and schools Kakashi straight through his.

Then, of course, using that connection to establish Obito later was a great touch.

I think introducing it to us early works best here.

The Uchiha he encountered largely did mock him for it, but it's not like the average ninja was in any position to do so. They know like 1% of the jutsus Kakashi does and can't beat him in a fight lol.

Well the massacre was still fresh way after he had got the name for it.

Plus his jutsu is hardly his only strong point having become anbu at one of the youngest ages before itachi. Uchia being plentiful may have used it mockingly but no doubt couldn't completely dismiss his level of skill at this time. Others used it endearingly and respectfully mostlikely.

Do we know when that name came about? Perhaps that nickname came after he was basically the only person left with the ability to be the "copy cat ninja".

Or he just did it to an exceeding amount because he wasn't as adept as the Uchiha at actually using the genjutsu aspect of it. Keep in mind the Uchiha prided themselves on their visual prowess and genjutsu first and foremost. They'd rather mindfuck somebody to death than actually have a hard-fought battle. For the most part anyways, not peeps like Madara, obviously.

I'm thinking of Uchiha like the police who came to Itachi's house to hound him over not attending their coup meetings and about Shisui's death. Those dudes seemed like some chodes who would just genjutsu a non-Uchiha.

Maybe people in the Leaf did, however it felt like ninja from other nations did so out of fear. I don't think his name spread to characters of literally every nation because they couldn't wait for the chance to one day mock him.

Even Zabuza was getting tired of how effortlessly Kakashi copied everything he was doing as he was doing it. Now imagine way lamer ninjas encountering Kakashi and getting their shit wrecked.

Kakashi was a war hero in his own right and many from other nations dreaded encountering him.

dafuq am I reading? Chidori was the original move developed by Kakashi. He turned it into the Rakiri by adding Shape Manipulation to it. Chidori didn't have a shape. The user's hand was just cloaked in electrical chakra. By the time Sasuke learned Shape Manipulation, he had advanced his technique beyond the Raikiri. He kept it in Chidori form, but used crazy Shape Manipulation abilities to create the Chidori Spear, Chidori Senbon, and Chidori Current. Raikiri is more powerful overall, but has much less utility and far more Chakra drain. Therefore Sasuke found it to be a useless technique.

Isn't "copy ninja" is actually a disguise?

Like he actually knows a lot of jutsu, but the nickname made people think he can copy any non-exclusive jutsus.
He used them as a mind game when he can cast the "copied" jutsu faster than the owner.

Not only does he have a Sharingan, he can also use earth, lightning and water chakra to actually copy more jutsus.

He might have fire too, but I'm pretty sure that was only in a filler episode.

Yeah I mixed up, Kakashi created it as the Chidori but improved it into the Raikiri, while Sasuke simply kept it as the Chidori. I guess since Sasuke never actually cut lightning with his it didn't get the name promotion. >_>

Basically like a blade, Kakashi refined it into a sharper form (raikiri) while sasuke's are more flexible and change it into different shapes like a spear, sword, etc

Kakashi is a unique case where he has the eye but no knowledge of the actual Uchiha secrets, so he's stuck mainly using it for copying.

They used the tools available to them, much like any other clan does. They had the fortune of their tools being among the best. Pride was never mentioned; most stuck to katon because they were genetically predisposed to katon. You can't just use any given element unless you have the skill to use it, even if you see it with a sharingan. Kakashi's special because he actually had the talent and skill to copy all manner of ninjutsu.

Sasuke didn't rename raikiri, that was the original name, whereas Kakashi renamed his own invented ninjutsu. Lore is he renamed it after cutting a lightning bolt, though even in-universe, people think that sounds silly. edit: well now I've seen I've been redundant

For all we know Kakashi took that aspect farther than any Uchicha combined.

It's easy to forget that the majority of characters we see fighting are already established as elite. The average young adult Uchiha still only had 2 tomoe. They were better on average, but it's easy to believe Kakashi would 1-up a whole dang clan.
