have seen a lot of guys say that most weren't. I think that most are though, dont' really know what they're talking about. And, do any of you ever donate money to wikipedia? I mean, does their site even have any ads to generate revenue? even this site has a bunch of ads.

Yes. Considering how open the page is to edits, Im really surprised at how well done most pages are. Ill usually only come across poorly written pages when looking up something very obscure.

The vast majority of Wikipedia articles are written to a perfectly acceptable standard.

It's an encyclopedia. Its purpose is to collate knowledge and make that knowledge accessible. Only if it failed to do that would the writing be 'bad'.

This.

Which is why I dread the day when some rich ultra right-winger ends up buying the site, because you know it's going to happen at some point.

Given how Wikipedia works it's a fucking masterpiece on the average. If you just heard about it conceptually you would assume most articles would be filled with bickering nonsense, but I've found very little that actually goes that way.

iirc most of the big articles are not written by users though, and most have never been edited by users

Wikipedia is the evidence that humanity is not fucked yet. The amount of people who post and correct the wiki is far above the vandals. If one day Wikipedia is unsalvageable from vandalism, that's the point where humanity is beyond hope.

I think they are. I'd have to know what the specific complaints people have about it to know if I agree.

It's an encyclopedia so it's supposed to be dry recitation of relevant, verifiable facts on the given subject and nothing more. What I would consider to be bad in a wikipedia article is incorrect information, editorializing, or writing that otherwise gives a misleading impression of the subject.
