On some level life is lonely because the only person who can truly understand you and truly love you for who you are...is you. So be kind to yourself (thank you, Evangelion).

Others may attempt to learn the real you, may attempt to love you. And those people you need to keep close, because they are rare and make life more worthwhile. But in the end of the day, you gotta be at peace with yourself.

Plenty of people know me better than I do and I know plenty of people better than they know themselves.

People who love other people tend to think about them more than they think about themselves. Unless you're a narcissist or something.

The anime I learned that from, Evangelion, literally kept me from eating a bullet. I was going to commit suicide once the credits rolled...until that scene. I hope that it can instill in you the same hope it did in me.

I doubt those who you think know you better than you know you because they're not actually inside your head. Even if your own head is confusing, you're still the one in it. Not them.

And I disagree with yoir interpretation of love. I see love as inherently selfish, but it's a selfishness that is (or can be) very positive. Sure, they think about those they love a lot, but why do they?

I never heard of that character. I was doing a naming scheme with -arry/-ary at the time. There was Harry, Gary, Perry & and even a Quarry, but not Larry as that was a bully's name back in school.

She's not from a popular game she's quite niche it's Mary skelter. And i think it needs more love.

I've heard of the games. Been tempted to buy the series on Switch but with Disgaea 7 coming around I don't know if I have the time or money to invest in it right now.

Oh cool I think the characters in them are incredible besides like 2 of them. the story is quite tear jerking in the second and third game despite the third game feeling like an unnecessary bonus game if I'm being honest.

And when that loved one makes them not feel good anymore (like, betrayal is what I'm mostly alluding to here)? They're no longer a loved one. Like that one Beatles song goes, "Love has a nasty habit of disappearing over night". I know that John Lennon meant something else by that, but still: love can vanish just as quickly as it can form.

Maybe I have a too utilitarian view of it, but that's how I see it.

"You only care about others because it feels good!" is bullcrap.

No one feels good waiting an hour in the rain to pick up a loved one from somewhere. No one feels good after a bitter arguement with someone they are intimate with.

Hell the proof is in the pudding. Look at narcissists and sociopaths who literally only care about feeling good. They don't care about other people because it doesn't benefit themselves to do so.

Are you denying that we as people don't chase the oxytocin rush we get from loving other people? That, sure, we want to do good things for them because we want them happy...but if you're going good, seeing your loved ones happy also makes you happy.

I contend that it is. That happiness we feel, that rush of endorphins, that we get from doing good deeds or loving other people is tangible. Sure, we may do things that don't make us happy in the short term, but by seeing the other person happy, does that not make us happy in turn?

Selfishness is a primary concern for oneself. It puts the self at the center. Putting other people's happiness before your own is inherently not selfish, and I would argue is more akin to the nature of love. Love diminishes the very concept of a self. In my own experience I certainly do not think of myself in the same way now as I did before I fell in love. I can't even conceive of myself outside of a context of my love for my immediate family, with whom I have been since birth.

You're also equating love and pleasure. There is overlap, but those are distinct concepts. The rush of endorphins you supposedly get when making others happy isn't love in toto.

I don't know what you're describing, but it isn't selfishness.
