Yes, I have a friend who, when i was trying to figure out sleeping arrangements with everyone going on a vacationtrip, I had assumed that she and her boyfriend would share a room, and she said no, we cant sleep in the same room.

I said Why? and she proceeded to explain that it stems from her religious views, particularly because they are not married. I told her that she would have to figure that out then, because we were not going to go to the trouble of finding a different place or a potentially higher cost to placate her religious views, and I suggested that one of them sleep on a couch.

We stopped being friends shortly after that, because during a trip for work (as she happened to be a co-worker as well) we all decided to go to a casino, and when we invited her she said that she did not want to go because it violated her religious views. When everyone returned back to town, those of us who went on the trip found out that she had told most of those who did not go in the office that we all went out one night and didnt even invite her and left her in the hotel by herself. After that, it became obvious that this was not someone i wanted anything to do with whatsoever.

Anyway, the short answer is yes. Rant over.

I've even heard of people against sex after marriage.

I grew up and still live in the south, and went to public school. Our sex education did not preach marriage before sex per se, but the teachers were required to instruct us that abstinence was the best method to protect from STDs and pregnancies. Which, while technically true, is completely unrealistic. They barely talked about condoms and other contraception, so a lot of students just did not have the knowledge about it unless their parents talked to them about it, which mine did.

The only people I've known that were against sex before marriage were also very religious. I can't imagine there are many non-religious people that follow that.

in the south as well, but yes, it was similar to what @Hikewne said, though they covered contraception in our coursework.

My mom for a long time, for religious reasons, of course. She probably still is, but kind of had to dial it back when both of her [biological] grandkids were born out of wedlock.

She was also an atheist.

Plenty of folks do. Its not just a religion thing. For some its a subjective value thing or could be colored by past relationships.

Holy shit the crap I got when I was an adult and finally had enough of it and did not hide I was staying at my boyfriends (now my husband) place.

Me when I was younger, since I was in a hyper religious environment. I also had an irrational fear of STDs. Up until high school.

Then I learned that religion = impose needless restrictions on the peasants while "I" (religious leaders and others making money off it) can safely ignore them.

Now, I think it's a preference thing for the couple. It's not a big deal if you do or don't, but I think there will be problems if they're both not aligned on it.

My first girlfriends mum. She wasnt religious, but she thought it was somehow immoral. We did it anyway.

A girl I knew about 20 years ago said she never wanted to have sex and never wanted to have kids but eventually ended up with a guy she had a lot of sex with, then a different guy after a few years she had at least one child with. She wasn't super religious; barely religious at all. She just wasn't interested. And no, it wasn't just me. We almost had sex one night while hanging out together but we decided against it before it got too far.
