https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2023/08/the-staten-island-protests-against-eric-adams-and-migrants.html

In the most high-profile eruption of public anger yet, hundreds of furious protesters flooded a quiet residential street in Staten Island on Monday to demand the closure of a shelter that holds barely two dozen migrants. For two hours, one speaker after another attacked Democratic lawmakers, raised the specter of the supposed threat that migrants might pose to women and children, and shook the cobwebs off the perennial demand for the borough to separate from the rest of the city.

If youre not going to do your job, Mr. Mayor, then let Staten Island secede, Representative Nicole Malliotakis said to raucous applause from the crowd.

The protest came on the heels of an escalating series of combative citywide scenes over the past week as people took to the streets to protest the presence of migrants in their communities. Three arrests were made at a protest on Friday outside the shelter, and a scuffle between an anti-migrant demonstrator and counterprotesters outside Gracie Mansion on Sunday ended in five arrests, including that of Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa.

I doubt too many of them are New Yorkers.

I mean FFS New York City it's New York.
What would New York be without immigration?
It's one of the most diverse cities in the world.
And has been for Centuries.

They should be protesting the human trafficking that certain states are allowing.
These fuck faces are probably eating at places in the city that have a kitchen staff full of immigrants or second gens that are just trying to survive and take care of their families.

I shouldn't get upset, because I don't buy into the 'protestors' intentions....but it does piss me off.

The Civil Rights Movement did not have paid for protestors...if anything some paid with their lives.

Staten Island voted for Trump in 2020. TC's using "New Yorkers" as a shorthand for "even the libs have had enough of these pesky migrants" but this story comes to us from a district that has a Republican congressman. It is not particularly surprising that they hold these views!

Protests have been breaking out all over the city. The entire thing is completely unsustainable and nobody knows what to do. Hochul basically told Adams to go fuck himself and that NYC is on its own. The Biden administration was like "our assessment seems to indicate you fucked up. Sorry, we can't really help"

Shelters popping up everywhere, school starts in a few days and they need to find resources for 30k new kids and the city and DOE is not even really cooperating. The school bus system is about to go on strike as well. Housing is absolutely skyrocketing since there's no more room. Even the black market of prior undocumented and other migrants have are having to compete with thousands of more people.

I'll admit I don't know Staten Island too well.
But those fuckers looked Bussed into the city and to the free trip to Staten Island.
In which case they fucking passed Ellis Island.

No, these are the same people who are paid to stand behind people at rallies as, 'Supporters'

You are missing my point, the resources are there.

In fact, many of those empty apartments are rented by no Americans and an investment.

Though it is also true, that work from home has freed up a lot of office space.
Immigration is not what is taking this country down.
If anything it's propping it up, and it's always been that way.

Sure, if you want to stop it, and spend $10 on a single tomato that was shipped 3000 miles from California in January, have at it.

The funny thing is, Eric Adams kinda sucks, so I agree with that shit-stain protestors statement.

Office space takes years and tons of money to convert into living spaces. It also costs money to buy. It doesn't matter if apartment are empty. They are not owned by the city and you can't just take them without paying exorbitant amounts.

No one is even saying immigration is hurting the country. Legal immigration doesn't. People continuing to come in with no end in sight and stressing the infrastructure amongst tons of other things definitely does hurt.

Your tomato example is pointless as well as those industries are fast tracking into automation, and it's same exact type of shit slave owners were saying to defend the cotton and tobacco industries during slavery.

Tomatoes wouldn't skyrocket to $10, but if they did, I much rather have people being paid good wages than being treated as an easily abused and exploitable underclass.

Well, Eggs did. Which is crazy, and shows a real flaw in the system.
And if you want a bunch of cheap bruised up Tomatoes that travel 3000 miles, have at it.

Go after the people that 'employ' and exploit those workers. That is the first step.

At any rate, I question the intentions of these 'protestors.'

Fueling what? That things are completely unsustainable and there's no room or money and it's hurting the entire city? $10 million dollars are day is being spent just for housing. That's just common sense.

Every country will eventually suffer falling replacement rates. That's a thing the whole world needs to figure out. Importing in people does not help and just makes the issue worst in those countries. There are tons of ways to mitigate this without tons of people pouring in.

The eggs things pretty well documented and was because of the Avian Flu adding on top of all issues and Cal-Maine not being affected. Eggs are now back to regular prices.

I'm not sure why automation, and higher wages for people working in existing farms are all gonna be from 3000 miles away? What?

Not sure why these protestors specifically matter. There were several huge ones in Queens over Creedmore and they're happening all over the city and every race and people are involved.

Everybody sees this is a massive issue.

This isn't true. Trump and his cult oppose all immigration, unless it's something like Russian birth tourism. Their opposition is racist in nature and they're quite proud of this. It's why Trump did his best to hinder all immigration, except for the cases where it benefited him personally.

These New Yorkers are asking for fascism because of the inherent contradictions.

First off we got migrants. Any big city has migrants. Second (economists tell me) migrant labor is an established part of our economy. Prices go up - profits go up migrant income goes down.

Already my country is flaunting international law in the name of keeping the migrants out. By the way this flaunting of international law has not kept the migrants out.

What is next? Oh, right. Let NYPD collect anyone suspected of being a migrant. Let NYPD go anywhere it needs to go to grab suspected migrants.

/ / /

Dumb Butt Protesters. You should be demanding decent quality of life from the powers that be instead of helping the powers that be suppress the down-trodden.

When in history has taking something away from a group of people meant it goes to you?

One example please.
