Both DC and Marvel have to have some suspension of certain logical things that would end up happening in real life.... in order to keep the status quo

Th3y could someday have the Joker go in the Phantom Zone, but only so something crazy happens and sets off a big Event

Like maybe Joker somehow gains powers from the Phantom Zone and escapes back to Earth

Batman, despite being a vigilante who breaks the law every single day, really tries to follow the court of law when it comes to criminal trials and punishments. So barring the Gotham Courts sentencing him to time in the Phantom Zone, he wouldn't go for it.

Tbf this one actually makes sense. If he kills joker the joker wins. If he doesn't the joker wins

Frankly every encounter he has ever had with the joker might as well have counted as losses

What's more fucked up is that the Joker can not only survive in a corrupt shithole like Gotham bur thrive. I can buy that the Batfamily (other than Jason Todd) would never kill him. I can accept that thr clean cops on the police department could never kill him in cold blood. But I can't buy that someone like an average Joe Chill or Tony Zucco wannabe wouldn't do it if the Joker did something like kill their loved ones.

There was a comic a while back where Joker tried to move to Metropolis and met Superman.

Superman foiled all his plans fairly effortlessly cause yknow Joker is small-time for a guy who punches intergalactic conquerors and literal demigods in the face regularly.

Then he threatens Joker about how he doesn't have Batman's "no-killing" code, it's just that he genuinely dislikes killing, but doesn't mind making an exception if needed.

Then after plopping Joker back in Arkham, he pays Bruce a visit. Bruce chides Clark for entertaining the idea of killing. Clark tells Bruce "you'll lose your favorite playmate." if he ever catches Joker in Metropolis again.

Was a pretty good issue iirc

Yes, exactly. That scene in TDK where the Joker tells Batman that he completes him, Batman feels the same, he'd just never admit it; but other folks see what's going on there.

I think he's usually hardcore medicated, it just doesn't work. There is a comic where he gets his hands on some super artifact and Martian Manhunter is forced to drive him sane.
http://i.imgur.com/JZYtF1T.jpg

One notion floated around is that he's "super-sane" which is a fancy in-universe interpretation of the idea that Joker is aware he's in a comic book and that nothing he does actually matters.

Ironically, he'd most likely be an Indigo Lantern, the color that runs on compassion. They forcibly recruit the universe's most dangerous psychopaths and the ring forces them to feel compassion for those they've wronged.

Of course, given the fanwanking over the Joker, it'd likely backfire and he'd end up corrupting the entire color, creating a madness corp or something.

Yeah, I enjoy the idea that the Joker needs Batman, but I find the inverse to be completely ridiculous.

There's a goofy fanfic where Bruce keeps a spreadsheet of reasons he's depressed. One of them is simply, "People who say I need the Joker like I don't have better shit I could be doing."
