(Less than 5 minutes)

Over 10 years ago, Marie Joseph drowned at the Vietnam Veterans memorial pool.

At the beginning of the season the pool was never cleaned, they just poured clean water over it and expected the pool filters to clean the water up but they broke.

They added the chemicals to the pool and opened up as normal without getting it verified by safety officials. The pool was so murky you couldn't see the bottom. Lifeguards are also supposed to drop a puck that they're supposed to see at the bottom which of course they didn't do.

The water was so foul and murky it was said that you couldn't see a few feet in front of you.

Marie Joseph and her friends 9-year-old son went down the slide. She bumped into him after going down thinking he was out of the way. She apologized to him but then an inexplicably she slipped underwater, resurfaced once and would never be seen alive again.

Having just seen this the 9-year-old boy tried to save her but he's too small and couldn't reach her in the 12-ft deep water. He immediately goes to tell a lifeguard what just happened and THE LIFEGUARD TELLS HIM THAT THEY ARE ON BREAK. He tells another lifeguard in this lifeguard tells him that will do a bottom check in 5 minutes and they never did this.

This woman died for no reason, The amount of negligence involved here makes me so angry.

People continued swimming in the pool the rest of the day not knowing her body was down there AND the next Day. It wasn't until some teenagers snuck in at night that they found the body floating around.

All of the people in charge of the pool and pool safety for the city were fired and some had criminal charges brought against them. But I can't find anything about whether the lifeguards were punished.

Oh yeah and they decided they had to demolish and remake the pool to be 5 ft deep, because the depth was the problem not the dirty ass pool they couldn't bother to clean it properly.

If they legimitately were on break at the time, rather than on duty, it's completely possible that legally they did nothing wrong. Again, legally, not morally.

if they were literally off the clock and not just on a paid break they might even be legally liable if they fucked something up

but still you should save the woman and deal with that after

Crazy. There is no such thing as being on break when someone's fucking drowning.

Morally, I agree. Just explaining why it's not that surprising they weren't charged.

If they were on break they could have still gotten someone else to help. A Kid told them someone was drowning and they said they would kick the bottom.

I heard about this on a show called True Nightmares. For an ID program, it's eeriely accurate in the way it showcases bizarre yet real crimes and tragedies.

The first person the boy told was on break, and the second one said they would do a bottom check in 5 minutes and never did. Not that a fucking bottom check would have saved her life.

That's sad. It's just amazing how fragile life is. She slipped and drowned after getting off a waterslide.
