It should be called a guilt jar.

Have you guys ever experienced that one tool who is friends with the owner who makes it a scene to put money in the tip jar to subtly gesture to you to do the same?

I just grab my food and state, "thank you and have a good day".

Tip jars are easy enough for me to ignore as I usually don't carry cash, it's those fucking touch screens that have the tip option right there when you're signing after using your card and you have to enter something. It's so awkward because you're face to face with the cashier, it makes you feel obligated. Hate to be one of those people who bitch about "tipping culture" or whatever you want to call it; I always tip if I'm sitting down being served at a restaurant and I tip bartenders. I just hate that everything pressures you for a tip now.

Not my problem. Still no.

Do you tip the bartenders who suggest and sell your products?

Bro I work for tips (only one shift a week these days, but it's still income that i rely on), and i fuckin hate those screens too. Every service industry under the sun trying to get their share of the tipping pie has created tipping fatigue and dramatically increased the likelyhood that I don't get tipped at all. I've had customers straight up ask me "if i tip does that actually go to you or does the restaurant keep it?" because with how inundated every counter-service where five different people help you and the cash register isn't even assigned to one clerk has gotten with tips, people have no idea where it even goes.

This.
I just had enough when the automated register at a local grocery store had a screen asking for a tip.

it's basically ruined serving. before we started shotgunning full tip suggestions on every screen, I maybe got stiffed like once a week, and it wasn't a big deal.

These days with the tipping fatigue, even our best servers get stiffed multiple times most days. Then a lot of folks want to blame it on Gen Z just "not believing in tipping" but it's like, no they grew up into this fatigue and unless they straight up ASK have no idea if the server is even getting the tip.

As a line cook who handles about 99% of the work on to gos it kinda annoys me that I don't get the tips for those orders. People don't tip on them as often but they do often enough.

In house stuff the waitresses do a good amount of the work after we've cooked and plated the food. With to gos I end up doing all that extra shit. The only part of it I don't do is take the order and physically hand it to the customer.

Also, it's the bartenders that take those orders. And unless I'm mistaken they make a regular hourly wage and a killing it tips.

Idk, this is the only restaurant I've ever worked line on. Is that typical?

On HUGE togos the whole kitchen gets a share of the tip, usually like 10-20$, but that's rare.

It just bugs me personally cause my "position" does everything everyone else on line does, but solely responsible for the to go orders.

Yes, one of the few places I go pick up food is good though. The girl who is always there once helped me carry a large order I couldn't get in one go out to my car in a really nasty rainstorm. It kept me from having to go back in and make a second trip.

It's not as much as I do on deliveries or eating in the restaurant, but I do add a little something.

i'll tip the small local places that have cheap prices. not gonna tip five guys when they charge $20 for a burger and fries.

The growing problem people are having with tip culture, and with those acting like it's no big deal, is the normalization of it.

Both workers and employers happily embrace tipping, and both heavily play the moral card to guilt people tipping more. With no one really addressing each decade, tipping "minimums" demanding more and more. As a lil fun fact, "at least 20%" was not always the standard. In fact tipping at all wasn't always the standard.

Now you have a new set of people acting appalled when tips aren't 25% if they so deem you can afford a more generous tip than the already generous 25% based on parameters they deem makes them worth over 25%.

TLDR, people are growing fatigued of tipping culture getting worse and worse.
(My post isnt directed towards you btw).

Because they do.

I am talking about local places, not chain places.
Those are two different discussions.

The arbitrary line people deem as "service" always fascinates me to no end.

There are so many jobs that do indeed provide you a service, including many people who make worse wages than those bartenders which includes many jobs people typically do not get tips for their work.

People working worse wages with no tips that so many take for granted as, "not a service" as if without these people your products will reach the customers by themselves.

Tipping culture is beyond ass backwards.

No. The tip is for delivery. If I'm picking it up, delivery didn't take place.
