The extreme exaggeration on movements and facial animations is weird. Feels like an entirely different cartoon.

been over 20 years, and production probably changed up in attempt to keep up with the current generation of children*, newer sensitivities, perhaps animation technology, and also just running out of ideas/plot lines.

* This stuff is just sporadic like I feel kids shows have been since I think late 2000's. It's like how kids movie trailers are crafted. The pacing is noticeably different.
I do think writers and producers have a certain outlook on their changing audience in terms of taste and cognition.

squidward voice sound like whispering.

i really really hate the overanimation and exaggerated faces. they're always way more over the top than the spoken lines, so the delivery doesn't match the action, and it just looks off

This is what we call a zombie show, I'm honestly astounded it's still going on I thought it got canned years ago. Even Fairly Oddparents finally died after their last attempt to wring blood from a stone by giving Timmy a gal pal to share his fairies with. I hear Cartoon Network is STILL running Teen Titans Go! As well even through it's been on for over 10 years too

Yeah, not a fan. Thats why I dropped the show partway through the first post-movie season and stick with the first three seasons / five years.

I get it, though. The show isnt made for the people like me who first watched it when it came out. That type of show is what the kiddos like, so thats who they make it for.

Even ignoring my distaste for the animation style, the story content there is just bad. I wouldn't call classic SpongeBob smart writing or anything, but none of the characters aside from Squidward seem to have any actual characterization in that scene.

The show stopped being good after the movie when the creator left the show (though season 4 still had one or two good episodes). I finally gave up on the series around season 7 or 8. Seems it never recovered.

Sometimes I forget it's still going. I can pinpoint the approximate time I stopped watching SpongeBob in middle school and that was back in 2006-2007.

The show completely changed styles after Vincent Waller was given control. Now it is more like Ren & Stimpy which is not surprising given Vincent Waller worked on that series as well.

Apparently it's still Clancy Brown, he just sounds different in this clip for some reason.

Squidward I feel definitely changed, unless age made his voice softer.

I don't watch SpongeBob, but from what I saw of the animation it was wonderful. What the hell is this John K lite mess.

If I remember correctly, when the girl appeared, the dog suddenly disappeared with zero explanation. Like he never even happened.

They really should've just stopped with Poof if they wanted new characters, as silly as that whole thing was.

I feel like this happens to every long running syndicated cartoon. First two or three seasons are good, then it's shit from there.
