My old LG phone gets about 75 minutes of use out of a charge. Its constantly plugged in. If i go out, it needs to be charged 2 or 3 times a day.

Just writing this message took me from 97 to 95 percent.

2-3 years. Although a battery replacement would be cheap, that's also when Android security updates tend to stop.

usually whenever topics like these are made, 95% of people will say "I'll use my phone until it rots out of my hand", while the people who upgrade more often don't post here lol

I upgrade once every 2-3 years

Ive been going 4 years

iPhone 5s
8
13

Usually a combination of performance, low storage, and weakening battery gives me that itch to upgrade.

That said, Im only at 52/128 GB on my current phone with 86% battery durability left almost 2 years in so I can see going another 2 easily, might stretch the upgrade interval to 5 years this round.

At one point I was on a 4 year plan. Then I got a bad phone that only really lasted about 2 years, I got 2 years on another phone before breaking the screen. I am approaching 2 years on my Z Fold 3 and it's got interior screen microcracks, but I'm not interested nor have the cash at the moment for a 5 (even with a trade in) so I might go for screen module/battery replacement when the inner screen craps out and go for 3-4 total years on the 3 since otherwise the phone is perfectly functional and able to keep up with what I need it to do.

Before 2010. Two cherry Verizon phones. 2006 and 2007. Lost them both in the span of 6 months going to work with slippery dress pants. Didn't bother with phones again until 2010.

Nokia (with a keyboard) 2010-2014
Nokia Lumia 1020 2014-2017
Pixel 2XL October 2017 - November 2022

4 years. Average

My first smart phone was with the Lumia 1019. The camera was nice, but it used the windows store/app and OS, and that was garbage.

3-4 years. I usually do it around the time the newest generation comes out so that the one just prior is now cheaper. Most of the time there's no real significant difference anyway.

I have the iPhone and I go every other model. So, right now I have the iPhone 13 so when the iPhone 15 releases later this year, Ill look into getting that if there is some good deals.

So, I guess every two years is my answer.

Was every 2 years until I got my iPhone Xs Max, which I'm still holding on to. I'm planning on upgrading at long last this year, as the phone is getting a bit slow and the battery isn't great any more.

It's definitely a risk. Wouldn't be surprised if the phone could last a decade with a new battery.

But companies are greedy.

A few years. I don't bother with a new phone until the current one starts annoying me from being slow and too far behind. Had an S5, didn't upgrade until the S9+ came out. I just upgraded that to the S23+ about two months ago.
