How... complicated are the controls for the game?
I've been scared off from playing the AC series because of the stories I've heard (and the pictures I've seen) of the difficult fingertwisting overly complicated control system.

Compared to the earlier ones, they are a breeze. I will use PS5 button placements as an example:

L1 - Back Left Weapon
R1 - Back Right Weapon
L2 - Front Left Weapon
R2 - Front Right Weapon
Square - Quick dash / boost mode on
X - Jump and Fly
L3 - That mega boost thing that shoots you forward (can't remember the name of it)

That's about it. D Pad Up is heal, down is scan, triangle is interact with stuff like doors. It is very simple. You will probably need to be hitting them all pretty often though, as flying around quick dashing and unleashing hell above can get hairy from a finger twisty standpoint, but compared to the early games it controls like a dream. Only 4 / For Answer might be better but that's just a faster game in the end.

The bosses have been the most divisive thing in this. Some people love them, while some people hate them. I'm definitely in the hate them camp. But luckily I'm on PC, so I can just use cheats if I get too annoyed lol

For the first boss, don't try to fight it from a distance. Use your Assault Boost (L3) to get right up under it and hit it with the blade as much as possible. The blade can be used two times in a row before it needs to charge.

Man I'm so fucking ass with dodging lol. The wall climber mission I got picked off by the asshole on the wall with missiles maybe 2-3 times. The eye strider thing, maybe 4-5 times. Gotta get better at assault boost dodging.

Yeah I died like instantly. I'm used to old AC's where everything is pathetic except for the larger enemies. Then boom, I get nuked into oblivion and die in three hits lol. Tried a few more times before I was like alright well I guess I need to actually take care of this stuff

I'm only in chapter 3 atm but I love the bosses so far.

Best tip is to NEVER stop moving. You will get wrecked. Even in a heavy mech you need to constantly keep moving. Strafing, boosting, hopping. You'll get hit less.

I was imagining the game being a third person Mechwarrior.

Well yes, Metalwolf Chaos was a FROM game. Just AC with added hilarity.

I talked to the dude and told him it's apparently not shameful to get stuck. Guy's still stuck on Balteus, is now saying Balteus is the most difficult boss fight he's ever played.
But he also says he refuses to change to a meta strat, so it's less like a difficult boss and more like a difficult self-imposed challenge.

If a boss has only one strategy that works it's a bad boss

If it helps your memory, Balteus was the flying thing with the missile barrages and flaming sword swings

looks like the Schneider parts you get at the start are actually the overall lightest parts in the game... I was hoping for a direct upgrade/successor to them

idk, i just checked fextralife for parts and sorted by weight and those ones seem to be the lightest as a set. but maybe they don't have all the parts or something idk.

What do you need a super lightweight set for?

I really hope we get some good DLC for this game. The possibilities truly are endless.

Not trying to brag as I still suck ass at this game, but I actually one shot Balteus last night after hearing all the horror stories. My build was "accidentally meta" I guess, but not because I was aiming for it because of online discussion but because I opted for a tanky build since I suck ass at dodging. I was still under 50% HP and no heals left when I finished him.

Did tank threads with heavy everything else, double bazookas and vertical plasma launchers. Bazookas are so good at staggering things that like to stay still.

If you think the first one is unfair, you are going to have an extremely difficult time with the end of chapter 1 boss.

Tbh not that many missions have them (relative to the total mission list) so it's a snipe hunt in a lot of missions. I've already finished my first playthrough, I'm waiting for a really comprehensive video guide to come out that has ALL of them before I do my second. I found a good number on my own at least.

Honestly the scan wasn't all that helpful for finding them. Every one I found I just stumbled into because I thought "hey, this seems like it might be out of the way enough to hide something here" and saw the box itself.

Different heads have different scan ranges and how long the things they've scanned stay highlighted for. They also have a hidden stat that that determines the cooldown between uses, but there's no way to see in game without testing it yourself in training or something.

It's also for stealth enemies and enemies hiding behind walls so you don't lose lock on them and can hit em with vertical weapons behind walls

Yes, it's confirmed. Finding parts hidden in missions is usually a thing with Armored Core games (I want to say it's always been a thing, but I can't remember if the PS1 games had them). In this game, they are in chests that have an interact icon when you get close. I don't think there are any in Chapter 1.

The scanner helps more with finding enemies that are hiding behind walls or are cloaked.

You can also get parts from collecting combat logs, I it's think something like every 4 you get a part or something like that

Thanks guys, I will be more mindful. I know you need to play it 3 times for the 3 endings so I was just curious how common they are. I recall previous ones having the hidden items, but I don't recall really going out of my way to look for them. This one, though, I definitely will

It's always been a thing. One of the first missions in AC1 has one hidden right behind you when you start lol.

This game is a ton of fun. Even been messing around with the photo mode which I usually don't tend to do.

I'm not sure which boss was the first boss but I've gotten to the mission where you have to destroy some Tester AC by itself. Have I hit the first boss yet? Lol

When you select the mission it will say "end of chapter" at the bottom. Then you'll know.

Yeah first mission of chapter 2 I found 3 chests. I'm sure there's actually more but I get it now

I'm on chapter 3, so far dual songbirds and gatling gun have carried me pretty hard

I found the fix.
I told the guy that DSP beat Balteus, guy removed his power limiter and beat Balteus within 20 minutes.
