Probably nothing will ever top the dumb I did a few years back. This was early in the top 10, like round 91-93. Kefka was looking very strong, and my save was free to snipe. I saved Barret after a NR had been offered for him, but didn't accept it because I wanted Barret to get through, too. Kefka was eliminated the next round. To top it off, if I remember right, Barret wasn't even my favorite left at that point and he got eliminated the next round.

Honestly I never expected Ghido to get anywhere near as far as he did in any of his years, I initially nominated him because I wanted to make my own little personal mark on this contest... and somehow he wound up finishing in the teens twice in a row. I have to put all my saves into him to keep him going, in a way his success is a bit of a double-edged sword that has stopped me from helping all the others I like. As Leon says it's difficult to just abandon him at a set mark, knowing I could drop him Day 1 or Day 71 and he'd be dead that very round.
Of course I knew all this going into this year's contest, and I had every intention of dropping him for Rinoa when she needed it, I just didn't think it was now. I don't know what to do next year, I can't trust myself to just drop Ghido at this point. I do like that idea though Roba.

I mean, if you look at it like this consider yourself very lucky. Or just luckier than some. My legitimate #1 never had a top 20 finish for nearly a decade, despite my best efforts all but one of those years. It took 9 contests for me to see him place above 23rd. He's much better off in recent years, sure. He's had several good runs now, mostly because of another dedicated person showed up and like me doesn't mind crashing head first into a brick wall year after year. For your favorite to make it this far while you fully support something else... I have to say I'm really envious. My favorite is just too weak to ever leave to chance; I missed the start of SMFFFC one year and he got booted next to last place. Usually by now I have nothing but my favorite left, any project or secondary favorite is typically long dead.
