I love garlic but detest onion, I think 90% of recipes that call for onion would taste better replaced with garlic

Anything I'm adding onions to is more than likely getting garlic and vice versa.

I chose onions because they tend to be more flavourful in the long run.

I chose onion. I love garlic, but it's harder to use and easier to burn. We add onion to like everything, and we add garlic to almost as much.
Plus, onion soup is bomb.

Onion is like salt in my house. It is added to almost every meal in my house.

I only like a little garlic in some dishes. Usually any meal calling for garlic I will use 1/2 what is recommended if that.

Garlic all the way. I never use onions. I use shallots.

The shallot is a botanical variety (a cultivar) of the onion. Until 2010, the (French red) shallot was classified as a separate species, Allium ascalonicum. The taxon was synonymized with Allium cepa (the common onion) in 2010, as the difference was too small to justify a separate species.[1][2]

You still have to choose.

you wouldn't put raw garlic in anything that calls for raw onion, would you?

fresh garlic is a very important part of some things but I'd never exclude onions for it unless I was making garlic bread.

and garlic powder can just be replaced by white pepper and italian herbs

I prefer the taste of garlic, but that's more like a seasoning or just simply an aromatic. Onion is more ubiquitous in meals and brings more to the table, so I'd prefer onion in a dish vs garlic.

Garlic is more of a seasoning where onions can be eaten in larger quantities cooked or raw. They're in the same genus but so different flavor and use wise they're not really comparable.

No real preference but if I had to choose one over the other it would be onion. It makes up a significant portion of some meals adding flavor and texture. I ate a clove of raw garlic once and it set my insides on fire. It's just its own kind of shit.

Onions are an extraordinary versatile ingredient, but that being said there are plenty of times when I want a dish to have a more garlic-y flavor, but I cant recall ever wanting more of an onion taste.
