Pokemon Go is and always was fun exclusively because you knew people into it.

So you have to tell us: do you know anyone playing it?

This weekend you can obtain mega rayquaza and the primal legendaries so you could have fun there.

I dont go out and do raids but I like to pop it open when Im out and see what kinda pokemon I can catch

Its fun if you travel a lot and its a good excuse to get out.

It's mostly dependent on your friends. Where you live or work affects your experience a lot too. Local communities can play a large role in your enjoyment. And then your play style and just what's going on lately in the game matters too.

So yeah. Varies massively.

It's fun if you have friends and raid with other people, i.e. join a local discord group.

How do I get Diancie?

Well you can buy a ticket to do go fest this weekend. I'm doing it as part of my son's birthday.

I go through phases but when I enjoy myself it's great fun.

It stopped when Hillary Clinton chimed in.

It's good at killing time. I think the hot focus is building proper PvP teams to get some more cognitive likeness to the main game. At this point I'm not willing to put the effort into anymore. Really just in it to try to net some last collection pieces. I didn't go as hard at the grind as many, but look back and see I got more than my fix.

Not hating on the game now, but I'm always going to live in the past with it. Maybe it's because I'm also more inclined towards the Kanto setting. It was crude early on, but my first night out (like 3rd day it was out) was the most fun as my friends and I just ran into other people trying to figure out the game. No datamining or maps just yet, so people would just speculate/claim weird shit like Aerodactyl was at one of the church towers although the logic of nests rang true.

Pidgey/Rattata all over the place, which was dull and authentic at the same time.

The first raids were a trip as Discord groups were just starting to come together. Sometimes lately I complain about spending on remote passes, but I didn't bat an eye before spending on premium passes and gas. People used to celebrate hitting Level 40 (well, it was harder then), and commemorating their first EX raids.

Remote options pressured by Covid and Pokegenie made the game more accessible at the expense of engaging. What's still great about the game is you can be ultra casual about it or very cognitive. You'll still reel in a lot and for the most part you're never going to permanently miss out on something. You can control the grind.

It's not complicated as long as you're okay with looking things up. The game has never had a proper tutorial and it doesn't really introduce new mechanics very well.

One thing that continually confuses people is taking photos of pokemon. There are two tasks that it likes to use that mean entirely different things. "Take photos of pokemon" and "Take photos of pokemon in the wild." In the wild means it has to be on the screen when you're trying to catch it. Not specifying wild means it has to be one in your storage that you have already caught. And there's a ton of stuff in there like that, where the game wants you to do something but is very bad at explaining what to do.

It is, but it takes up a lot of time, which I don't have just to walk around to various pokestop and gyms

2-3 hours for me per day.

stopped due to covid pandemic just wasn't worth risking getting sick and possibly ending up on a ventilator (there was no treatment back then).

I was having fun until they killed the walking simulator cheat, it was great being able to hatch all the eggs I get from friends as I don't have nearly enough time to walk around outside hatching them and even if I did I wouldn't because screw burning up in Texas's heat for this. I also don't like the nerf to Remote Passes, my area doesn't have a lot of people playing it so when I want megas I have to rely on those but now less so because of how much they cost in pokecoin. Finally, this route stuff is meaningless to me yet so annoying because I can't do anything with Zygarde without it

the biggest dependency, IMO more than friends, is location. are you located somewhere where you can do laps or whatever and get a regular cycle of spawns, gyms, and stops? if not, then it's really no good. even with friends.

i go to the mall of america in MN all the time just to play when i'm bored. there's ALWAYS people there doing raids and shit, and it's all a big circle so you can get some exercise and/or just sit at a bar/restaurant and hang out while playing.

if you have a place like MOA near you it's great. beyond that, eh.

I just use the adventure sync. My job is on my feet for 8 hours so it works out.

It is unless you live in a rural area. If you find a discord and get to know the other players in your area, it can be really fun.

Yeah its great. This weekend is the annual Go Fest so you will find lots of local people in your area playing it outside.

i didnt buy the ticket last year and heard the paid ticket events were just awful. still had a lot of fun myself so that didnt bother me

I bought the ticket last year but had to work so I could only do what I was able to from there

Outside of the first couple months I don't think it was ever fun. I finally stopped playing last year.

Probably gotta go through the whole research before it pops up. You can do it anywhere.

How much typically goes into the research segments?

I just want the Diancie lol, and I might be busy Saturday. If it's something where I have to walk all around the city, I'm not paying for a ticket to do something like that when I won't even be able to do it

Some of those quests take like three months to finish. They frequently have crap like "spin a pokestop three weeks in a row" or whatever.

The Diancie research I got from Go Fest NYC was pretty short. You can basically finish it in one day if you commit to doing most things at Go Fest. It was something like spin 5 Poke Stops at each area and take a picture of the Pokemon you catch in that area, and other basic things like that. Here's the steps for Diancie research at Go Fest NYC near the bottom of this page since Global research isn't out yet.

To get the Diancie research all you need to do is log in once during the event duration and you'll have it forever until you finish the research.

Ohhh so I could log in to get the research on Saturday, immediately close the app, then two weeks later return to it and finish everything and still get Diancie?

I get in 80-100km per week on foot so mainly hatch eggs and spin stops. More or less open the app 5-10 minutes a day.

I was able to a whole go fest research in about two to two and a half hours at a park nearby. You don't lose the research after the weekend is up. Once you buy into it then it stays. You eventually even the get the f2p version later so you can get another.

The game sucks the most when theres no event going on and theres a legendary that people are so bored with because its been out so many times (Cresselia being an example)

I still average 30-40 kms a week despite mainly playing on the bus and light rail. Looking forward to Go fest this weekend as well.
