Chris Pratt won't be the ongoing voice of Mario. It isn't as simple as doing a celebrity guest voiceover. Mario sometimes receives multiple games within a single year. There's no way that Nintendo could pull Chris Pratt away from Hollywood for that kind of commitment.

I like Charles Martinet, but the voice that he gave Mario doesn't work for lengthy stretches of dialogue. Having a new voice actor opens up doors for greater storytelling and character development. (Of course, that's what got Sonic in trouble.)

Not surprised. There's been a rumor that he stopped for a while now. People thought he had a different voice in Wonder and at Martinet's convention shows he wouldnt accept questions about the movie and Wonder.

Theyll hire someone to sound like Charles Martinets Mario and then pay them 2/3 of what they were paying Martinet.

Congrats to a career either way it ended.

Kinda weird they don't want to cite how many years exactly, but this guy's voice has been Mickey Mouse/Bugs Bunny recognizable. Even if we date him to SM64, he's been at it over then span many of us were in elementary school, to now being adults ourselves. Crazy for anyone who ended up working for Nintendo.

I remember my parents always bringing up old celebrities retiring and dying, and how it dated them. Our generation is experiencing that more and more now.

No doubt. TBH, if they can get away with it on a new upcoming ignorant VA, they'll pay that guy even less than half.

Assuming they aren't going the AI route.

According to Charles himself hes recorded over 5 million unique lines for Mario so Nintendo can use his voice practically forever

Martinet has been voicing Mario for almost 30 years, officially starting with the Super Mario Bros. pinball machine in 1992. The 66-year-old actor says he's since recorded over 5 million audio files as Mario and doesn't plan on stopping any time soon.

Me too, but i recall him saying before that he wanted to play Mario til he "drops dead" :(

Things can change, but it really sounded like he wanted to play Mario in the movie... my gut feeling is it's nintendo's decision. Really sad tbh

Whoever is voicing Mario in Wonder already has the voice mostly down, from what clips we heard in the reveal trailer. A teensy bit of adjusting and they'll be a perfect replacement.

People always assume the worst. I highly doubt Nintendo forced him to retire. By all accounts he's a great guy and his Mario voice is probably the most iconic voice in video games. Why the hell would Nintendo ever want to get someone else?

I saw someone suggest that maybe he has a possible health issue. Could be that. Or maybe he just wants to retire. He's obviously earned it.
