It's funny that people shit on Temple of Doom for years and specifically shit on Short Round and how he's such a bad character and how he's so racist.

Then the actor appears in a (massively overrated, and imo, a POS) popular movie and people act like they've always loved him.

Temple of Doom has always been one of my favorite Indy movies, and it really doesnt have much to do with Short Round at all

To be fair, it was always the worst of the original three. It wasn't until we had the context of way worse movies that most people went back and realized it was still pretty good on its own.

It wasn't helped by the fact that both Spielberg and Lucas were going through divorces at the time and hated women in general, so they wrote Willie to be the most annoying woman ever and then spent the whole movie torturing her. Which is why most people hate her character (which was the entire point). Of course, that just makes it all the more ironic that Spielberg married her after the movie was finished.

It also had the drawback of being a pretty dark movie at a time when audiences weren't necessarily into that sort of thing, but in modern times more of an appreciation for darker content has grown up (see also, Game of Thrones), so people are more willing to go back and reevaluate Temple of Doom.

Which is kind of a shame, because he was honestly one of the only good things (or at least not-bad things) about the shit-show that was Crystal Skulls.
