I liked it fine enough until I was assaulted by a teacher in 6th grade (for obvious reasons, middle school was my least favorite time). After that, I didn't like it but I felt obligated to go without a fuss because my older brothers gave my mom so much hell with school that I couldn't burden her with BS of my own. It took a lot of mental energy to get through that and by the time I graduated high school, I didn't have anything left in the tank. Without the compulsion of the state and no ability to self-regulate, college just wasn't an option. I tried it in my mid 20s and it was a disaster.

That was 10 years ago and I may give it another shot because I've grown quite a lot as a human and feel like I have the ability to do a lot better than I did.

I had lots of fun in school and friends.

I never wanted to be in school. I liked the social part but not the school part. I have a post grad degree and I never liked school.

I did almost 19 years of school and I pretty much hated it all outside of seeing friends and extra curricular activities.

But seriously though, I just never like going to school.
I never skipped classes or anything like that, I just always felt pressured into doing my best instead of trying my best...

I only really got bullied in I think 6th and maybe 7th grades. It wasn't that bad even then.

No, I just really hated the tedium, the way teachers sometimes treat you like you're not really a person (goes both ways tbf), getting up early, etc. Highschool was especially bad because around that time I developed insomnia and was literally sleeping 4-5 hours a night max and I just didn't connect with almost anyone at all really. Only decent thing about it was the comparatively huge selection of girls since my k-8th grade school was tiny in comparison

Grade school was grade school.

Middle school I hated 7th grade but liked 8th grade

Didnt like high school at all

College was the best 4 years of my life

I was a straight A student throughout all of school, but I never liked going to actual classes, having homework, or doing assignments. I never minded taking tests though, because those were easy for me.

Oh yeah. I think I spent about 80% of the years I actually went to highschool just reading books in class (like, not for the class, but to pass the time cause I wasn't paying attention). I'd learn or memorize just enough to pass the tests and then do no homework whatsoever and barely any classwork. It was enough to pass, anyway.

It became an issue when I told my teacher I had no intention of doing some massive essay I didn't want to do based on an author I didn't want to read - like several weeks worth of research and writing both at school and as homework. I was put in ISS indefinitely until I caught up on the assignment.

I was pulled from school the next day and homeschooled for the rest of that year and part of the next, til my dad quit paying for it. I studied for a GED, passed it, and that's that I guess.

In hindsight I was an idiot. I thought I was too smart for school, that I'd gamed the system, but really I missed the point entirely, that it's less about learning the subjects and more about learning responsibility, routine and structure etc.

Still, I stand by refusing to do that stupid fucking essay. I already knew how to write them and it was worth one test grade.

I switched schools in middle school twice when my parents got divorced and hated it ever since.

Before that I was in a lot of in and after school activities. Had a lot of friends. Then it all became a nightmare. The first day back after summer vacation was traumatizing. When I saw all the "back to school" commercials and sales in August I'm pretty sure I had panic attacks but didn't know what they were. High school was run by this garbage redneck PE teacher who was also the town mayor. He and his son were the biggest bullies in the school.

My school didn't have a middle school back then. We went straight from elementary to high school at 8th grade.

Either way, I hated it. High school mostly. I was always an outcast, but in high school the exclusion was made into a form of bullying. Alongside regular bullying and issues. I didn't mind the schoolwork, it was the other students.

I know that pain. The longest I was ever in a a single school district I think was two grades consecutively. Between being bounced back and forth between my parents (who lived in different parts of Georgia and Alabama, about 8 hours apart)every few years, or just major moves they made, I was almost always in a new school every year, or returning to a district I was in years previously.

My school experience wasn't like most kids, I think. I basically have no childhood friends. Like, I had friends.. but like was never around long enough to develop any lasting relationships.

By tenth grade I went to live with my aunt and uncle.

I know it's supposedly worse for parents to stick together just for the kids sake but that "kids sake", depending on the age.. well, it can be complicated. There are some things that should be considered.

If they're not gonna stay in the same area and/or have the kid permanently stay with one of the parents it might actually just be better to have miserable parents that bicker than a kid that has a weird, transient life. And exposing them to the potentially horrible step parent, or step siblings. You know, barring like abuse or something.

My parents and step parents were all in their early 30s when the divorce and remarriage went down. They were still immature. Seems like the kids were used more as weapons to get back at the other without consideration of how their decisions may affect them.

My mom took me by car to my original school in the 5th grade because it was in another district and the bus wouldn't pick me up there. Then my father or step mother (don't remember which one) turned her in, and I was forced to go to another school. A lot of bouncing around after that. Shitty years.

Even moreso when you get her name from the order and look up her socials.

Same, parents had us young, then used us to like barter and trade one or two for the other most of childhood. And I double struck out on step parents. Pretty sure they were both bipolar, but one was distant at best and a monster at worst, the other pretty cool or petty and cruel. Step siblings were mostly alright themselves, but I've never seen that sorta family work in a way where the kids are all actually treated equally. There is always favoritism and coldness coming from some direction. The parents, or grand parents, someone.

Yeah, my step mother actually was bipolar and refused to take her medication for it. She also always thought everyone was plotting against her and was jealous of me and my brother. She kept a journal and we read it one day when it was left on the kitchen counter. Disturbing stuff. She'd get donuts every Saturday and knew Boston cream was my favorite, but she always gave them to my step brother and give me glazed which I didn't like. lol

I wouldn't say it was the best year of my life, but it was definitely amazing. So much freedom yet so little responsibility compared to now. It was nice not having to pay rent or a mortgage or car note or work a 40+ hour career every week. Or take care of a family lol. Also, it was a lot easier to maintain social relationships.
