Yeah. I don't remember much about it, though. Feel bad for the guy it's based on, though. Sounds like that family screwed him hard.

I saw it and enjoyed it. Portrayed a nice story.

The news is that the movie lied. The entire story is made up. The actual athlete in the movie, in real life, was harmed by the people that in the movie help him.

I'm just going off the latest news. I've never seen the movie and don't really know the plot. Just that so.e white people help out a black football player. But according to the news going around, the real life player has revealed that the movie lied

That the white people helped him. He says they actually exploited him and lied to him. I think they told him they would adopt him but then never did

Yeah it was something like that if not it. I just think Sandra Bullock is beautiful so I'll watch anything. Good movie though

Basically they never adopted him, had him sign a conservator document instead under the pretense they were adopting him. All the money he's made over the years went to them.

That's the claim anyways, and the movie depicts scenes that never happened as well, along with portraying Michael as "dumb" when he was anything but.

Even when I saw it years ago I could tell this story was a lie. Glad he ended up making it big tho

I learned about this on IG and in the comments there were plenty of people calling him ungrateful because the people who adopted him gave him the opportunity to become a professional football player, or some variation of that generation notion, with varying degrees of racism. Kaepernick was also brought up randomly.

Many there seemed upset by black sports players speaking for themselves.

From what I've heard (haven't seen it), the movie does make it seem like he's so dumb he could be borderline mentally disabled. The reality is more that he just had a terrible home life as a child (addict mother, father in and out of prison, bounced between foster homes/homelessness) that caused his struggles in school until he got a little stability.

So yeah, it's always been known that the movie twisted the story to be more white-savior-y, but the recent allegations would mean the actual family was more outright nefarious.

It was a pretty typical 'tug on the heart strings' type of movie that hit all the expected beats, but the performances were decent.

As for the recent allegations, they're not really new as Oher has been estranged from that family for years, dating back to before the movie came out, I believe.
