i think it's projected to really make landfall as a 1 at worst, right?

im interested in seeing how vegas fares -- it's projected to hit there as a tropical depression, which by their standards, would be SHITLOADs of rain. saw a report that said a year's worth of rain could come from it.

Well we did upgrade our flood systems after the rainfall in 1999 here I hope it's enough.

San Diego and LA are not going to have a fun time. I've heard something like six to eight inches of rainfall.

On one hand, my place is about to go through a watery hell that might see a lot of lives ruined. On the other hand, we could see a potential end to the state's drought problems.

Hopefully they're getting the word out locally to prepare. My buddy in SoCal had no idea this was coming until I told him about it earlier this morning.

I also live in in California wasnt even aware of a hurricane heading towards here..
hell its so damn hot outside even in the morning that you wouldnt even think it would rain at all

i can't remember the last time i heard about a hurricane hitting the west coast. hope everyone stays safe

Its been reported as a tropical storm all week and i think just this morning it was upgraded to a possible hurricane.

Still its just supposed to be high winds and a lot of rain with possible flooding depending on where you live.

I live in San Jos so Im not too concerned but I have a few friends who live in San Diego and another friend just recently moved to LA so Im worried about them.

Hopefully, it won't be too bad (just unusual).
I don't know how much to trust news reports in "pre" disaster news, because there's an impetus to inflate the potential danger/damage to drum up ratings.
Or maybe that's just my wishful thinking that it won't be too bad for the people in California.

But, again, if you're not used to the event, something that may not be considered a huge disaster in other parts of the nation could end up doing a lots of harm.

California's various city/state governments haven't issued an evacuation notice anywhere, right?

On a side note.... this was the first time I saw Hi"l"ary spelled with a single "l".
Is this a common way to spell the name in some parts of the world?

I live in Las Vegas in one of the more elevated parts of town. I'm not worried about flooding in my area, but it's just been a steady rain all morning so far

I live in Southern California and so far the rain here in my area seems rather mild at the moment.

This rain is pretty weak sauce compared to the worst rains I've experienced.

I'm not in So Cal.. I'm in Las Vegas.. I'm still in its path, but I won't get as much as the heavy rains.

I'm not too worried. It's supposed to be a cat 1 by the time it reaches us. Definitely unusual for California, but nowhere near as bad as some of the hurricanes that have hit other parts of the country.

It hasn't fully hit us yet lol. It's going to pick up in the afternoon. According to Weather.com, the wind speeds in LA will pick up between noon and 3pm. They're predicting 20 mph winds

Hilary was pretty overhyped, at least in the Inland Empire. As of right now the has been pretty light and spotty. Maybe that will change later.

Right on the beach here in San Pedro. Barely a drizzle so far, should intensify around 5 pm. Goanna be alot of rain apparently, people already raided the stores and bought all the water, my GF who usually drinks bottled water rather than filtered water is pissed.

Just a regular day here in LA

True, but I feel like phrasing it like that is just newscasts trying to make it sound scarier. Like, the amount of rainfall we get varies pretty wildly each year. So saying that doesn't really tell you anything. My first thought was "Okay, but which year?"

Like, so far this year, we've had 29 inches of rain. But the prediction for Hilary is between 3 to 7 inches of rain over 2 days. Still a lot, but this past March, we had 2-4 inches of rain in a single day. So, I don't think the rain will be catastrophic, but the wind is stronger than we're used to.

I just drove through the "Heavier Rain" section a hr or two ago near down-town LA

It's nothing special, nothing that I haven't dealt with before.

It's raining and cool. Feels like being back Santa Ana in winter without the strong winds. It'll be sunny and muggy tomorrow though so boooo. But it's reeeeally nice right now. I even saw several of the neighborhood kids splashing in puddles and having a good time. I went out n took a walk myself.

Lol the yearly Santa Ana winds are much stronger than this.

So I feel very confident in saying not a god damned thing happened. No winds, no flooding, no real rain. It was just a rainy day. The winter storms were actually things to be concerned about. Maybe tomorrow I'll swallow my words but as of now, this has been nothing to hype up.

I went through down town again and back, heavy rain, but that's it; nothing I haven't dealt with before, nothing special.

It's over-blown.

Yeah it was overhyped. Its already passed. Flood warning ended 15 minutes ago. Was a huge nothingburger. People bought all the water for nothing.
