Last week it was down to $3.61.
Just got gas and it was back up to $3.89.

Yeah I have 4$ starting near me, so avoiding driving as much as possible, & taking the motorcycle if I need to & stuff will fit. I sure do love not having protections against price leadership & gouging /s

I went on a family vacay to the keys a couple weeks ago and when I was down there it was $4 and I was like .

Gas prices here in Florida in general have been terrible meanwhile our shithead governor is busy getting dunked on in Iowa or NH or wherever the fuck he is

Even here in New Zealand in the middle of winter gas prices always go up because it's when Americans are going on road trips. Every year people here are like "wtf why are gas prices so high" and they don't understand it's because Americans are literally sucking up the entire global oil supply with their brodozers.

The bill wasn't going to fix any price gouging when it's a globally traded commodity where OPEC+ has a substantially larger pull on prices based on their production levels than a few oil companies who control maybe 2% of the market...

you seem to have no understanding of the situation. the bill would have punished the companies that sell oil/gas in the united states who had/have been making record profits while gas was skyrocketing. it would have criminalized the price gouging that has been going on via these companies operating here. republicans killed the bill because they are all corrupt and taking money from those companies, they don't care about americans, only their donors. not surprising from the party of the obese traitor but it's wild they can still fool the rubes

I don't know very much about oil production, but I heard that there's limited production in hotter temperatures. Is that true?

Also we'll need refineries, and there hasn't been a new one built in 'Merica since 1977.

It sucks. But I've learned ways around it. Instead of driving, I use public transit more. I don't buy out as much like coffee, breakfast/lunch/dinner. I've cut back on buying extraneous things and any necessities, I buy items on sale or use coupon books.

Honestly if America wasn't so reliant on oil from other countries or really went all in on alternate energy. This issue wouldn't be so big.

the vast majority of the gas used in the united states comes from domestic companies. we could easily cap prices charged for domestic gas and the oil companies would continue to make cash hand over foot.

it's p fun when chuds want to blame biden for gas prices they can't point to anything but when democrats actually want to do something about gas prices they scream 'it can't be helped'. we could absolutely regulate gas prices and install a cap, the gop is just in bed with big oil and doesn't give a shit about the actual people.

the united states is by far the biggest producer of oil in the world. we don't have to be at the mercy of the opec cartel, the republicans just prefer that so their masters can keep jacking the price and making record profits.

Yes they're the biggest producer, just ahead of Saudi Arabia and Russia. They aren't by far the biggest producer, and OPEC+ produces about 3x what the US proud and those countries control the production so they can directly influence production up or down.

I always try to use the Safeway gas stations because I get discounts for buying stuff from Safeway. Any discount makes a difference.

Did you read the bill? It doesn't provide any fixed cap on prices. It fines a company for "grossly" increasing prices over a 30 day period, but it doesn't explain what "grossly" means. Is that 10%? 30%? Is that compared to oil price increases over that period? Nowhere does it cap prices, and it is very vague on what level of increases would result in fines. It was a pure pandering bill to "punish" oil companies for the acts of other countries.

I have no idea where you're getting this 16.6 million barrels a day number from. The US produces about 12M~ barrels a day, projected. That is just ahead of Saudi Arabia and Russia, who are producing just under 10M barrels a day as part of the OPEC+ production curbs. And OPEC+ produces about 43M barrels per day so the US being the #1 producer doesn't mean as much when the cartel can coordinate production to influence oil prices as they hold over 40% of the oil supply.

You need investors from that. Heard they are wary of putting money into the oil industry cause of the repeated booms and busts that had happened. Nobody wants to invest in an oil well when they think prices might not stay high enough for it to make a profit.
