Sure, it has the worst case in the franchise (Kidnapped Turnabout) and the ending just goes on and on and on for no fucking reason and with no sense of progression.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut until you start running in circles for two hours with Alba, the final case is actually reallly good.

The first case isn't great, but it's kind of whatever and it's a fun introduction to the new persepctive on investigation. Turnabout Airlines is a legit great case. Fun setting, a good villain with huge... tracts of land and an extremely likeable "defendant". Case four is also pretty good. It has a lot of emotional weight and some good fanservice and the conclusion and its interplay with the rest of the game is good too.

But beyond the specific cases, it just has some great interaction between the characters. Seeing how Edgeworth works with Gumshoe is great, Kay is a good character who engages more than Maya does, Shi-Long Lang is... fun? Something like that. And it manages to make Franziska good despite her being the the worst prosecutor in the main series (pre-Spirit of Justice).

So yeah, it has shortcomings, but it's still a good experience overall.

It was my first Ace Attorney game so it's hard for me to be objective about it. For me it's not so much that it's awful so much as AAI2 goes to immense lengths to show how great 1 could have been. I really like the music as well.

I do consider it to have the hardest/ most BS evidence present in the series, which is in case 3. Lang says the girl and butler conspired about the kidnapping at the table and the solution is to present a picture of the table with 3 water cups 'proving' the presence of a third conspirator.

People didn't like AAI 1? News to me. I thought it was fine.

It's too bad AAI2 didn't get translated but the fan translation is excellent

The fourth case is stellar, and the concept of the fifth one is riveting; it just loses steam at the climax of all places for well documented reasons. All else aside, Investigations lays the groundwork for a much better-written game.
