what the fuck was the point of the last 20 minutes. The whole subvert expectations by having some nobodies kill the main character made me mad.

The last 20 minutes showed that even Chigurh isn't immune to the whims of "fate".

He gets t-boned in an intersection right when it seems like he's going to skip out scot free, and he gets a horrifically shattered arm for his trouble. Good luck getting that fixed.

Everything Chigurh did before brought him to that moment, at that intersection. Just like everyone else he preached to about fate.

What about the first two acts led you to believe the Coen Brothers were telling the kind of story where the showdown between the protagonist and antagonist was going to be an on-screen spectacle?

Go watch Fargo and keep in mind that it isn't a true story.

It's a difficult read. There's like no punctuation. I couldn't get very far into it.

The most important scene is the last one, where the ex-sheriff is describing his dream and ends with, "And then I woke up."

Cormac's writing style makes it practically a screenplay already. The opening scene about the coin toss is basically ripped verbatim. It's pretty impressive that the movie wasn't originally written by the Coens since the story is so Coenesque.

Even this is subverted though, don't you think? It looks like a sudden karmic retribution, but Anton is still able to MacGuyver himself out of the situation by paying the children, and we've seen him mend his own wounds before. At the very least it's not clean cut, and IMO the idea that there isn't a sort of karmic justice or fate for everyone is more thematically inline with the movie. Llewelyn's wife also plays into this by refusing the coin toss and forcing Anton to make a decision without pretext, as well as the sheriff 'waking up' from the dream of the torch passing.

Watch Hell or high water. Based on your reaction to ncfom it seems that movie is more your speed

Chaos and entropy are big themes of that movie.
