Gun.Smoke was the other game I was waiting on, since it's my #1 fav NES game. I was NOT expecting that amount of love! Cracked his top 3! Though it pained me to see him hoarde his powerups, never use them, then proceed to get a game over because of it.

it had quite a few versions on different systems so maybe you played a different port of it. There was also Danny Sullivan's Indy Heat which was created by the same people (Leland) and played pretty similarly, as well as Super Sprint by Atari/Tengen and of course the R.C. Pro-Am games by Rare. 2 had a similar momey-earning system to upgrade your vehicles

and I just now realized that Rare did the NES ports of both Super Off Road AND Indy Heat so they were all over this genre

got some meories of tiny toons. the oldest video game related memory i have is of it (assuming memories that old can be trusted). was never able to beat it though. made it to wacky land a few times but never had enough lives to get through it. i should play it again sometime and see if i can finally finish it

So with Tiny Toons he notes how similar it is to Mario, but its not just similar, its identical. Konami straight up copied the entire physics and camera logic from Mario 3.

I'm watching the next one live and I'm so fucking baffled by Jeff's reactions to the first GI Joe game that I just have to post about it now. He just spent like 30 minutes straight on fucking Urban Champion of all things and then within 20 seconds of starting this one, a pretty decent sidescroller, he said it was shit and almost every criticism since then has made no sense and seems to really just be him being mad that it's based on a later incarnation of G.I. Joe than the one he cared about.

As someone who can relate to playing urban champion for longer then you should that sounds like something Jeff would do

Thanks to this topic, I've been watching these every week.

I never really watched Jeff before, I know his story and know Giant Bomb....but it never really clicked with me. Especially after that one guy passed away.

But this series has been great.

The first GI Joe game is amazing. The sequel that Capcom made is the one that surprisingly sucks.

I feel like he's way too lenient on Ice Climber here. His experience with it ended with him (rightly) getting frustrated and saying "fuck this" before closing out of the game.

Ice Climber is my least favorite title on the NES. I fully admit I haven't played nearly the full library but my gosh is that game absolutely putrid. It also doesn't do it justice to play until you lose and then try level 30 one time and then stop. To fully let that hatred seep into you, you need to play it until you beat it. That's when the madness truly begins to crush your soul.

I rented that game when I was a kid, I could not figure out how to get past the one jump on the first level and I think we may have returned it early because of this lol. (In retrospect, all you had to do was hold up while jumping...oh well...I doubt I would have got past that electric part a couple minutes later anyway)

I also was annoyed at how he was playing Yo Noid and Bubble Bobble lol

Werewolf is one that makes more sense once you spend some time with it and also read the manual. It's certainly not amazing, but I probably wouldn't call it bad

I havent played Athena personally yet, but I watched several people stream it, and it became their this game is so bad and Ill only play it if you pay me X amount of money game

It's very bad. Don't believe anyone who says "The arcade version is better" either. Technically that's true because it looks and sounds a little better and has a better framerate but it is still a very very bad game

The Athena music being in smash was a big WTF moment for me

Well, the thing we were hoping to avoid seems to be happening. My wife got sick last night, and since she's in very close proximity with the baby, we figure it won't be long before she also gets sick. She's been putting on weight really well and we'll just have to hope that the breathing condition along with being sick doesn't create a situation where the baby can't feed. This is going to end up impacting today's stream, which I'm going to try to get in tonight, assuming everyone goes to sleep properly.

In the meantime, a new Hall of Fame posted last night and I'm also hoping to get a little writing in over the weekend, depending on how it all goes. Wish us luck and hopefully I'll be back with NES games in 11-12 hours. Sorry for the delay.

i admire this mans commitment to NES science in the face of adversity. cant imagine having to stream and be funny with this going on.

I had that game way back in the day. Even as a kid, it fucking sucked. I played it for many hours.

The pole vaulting was impossible. The pogo was next to impossible. The boot throw was a crap shoot. The pizza thing was fucking dumb. The gondola fight was the only decent one.

that Willow game seemed really cool, especially for the NES. Like a Mana game too bad the Disneyness probably keeps it from ever making it onto the Switch.

Willows cool, the arcade version is also a decent game. Capcom almost always put effort into their Disney projects

I agree with that commentator, Yo Noid is basically a better Adventure Island. Shame his science didn't see it.

Funny enough, the developer of Yo Noid (Now Production) did the sequels to Adventure Island. They didnt do the port of the first one, though, I think that was just Hudson.

Hey everybody! Woke up sick this morning, so I'm not 100% sure if there'll be an NES stream tomorrow. Depending on how it all goes I might have to go find a hotel and hide out with my son for a few days to keep everyone else from getting sick. It's frustrating! In a couple of weeks the baby should be out of the danger zone for her breathing thing, so hopefully the next time my daughter brings home a cold from school we'll just... all be sick? Wait, that somehow doesn't sound better. Hmm. Anyway, happy Thanksgiving and/or Thursday to everyone. If the kids sleep soundly and I'm not sneezing like a maniac I might try to fit in a night stream at some point.

He sounded decently sick during the podcast yesterday and said his son is more sick than him so might still be up in the air. But he said again that it wont be much longer before the baby is past the point of being in danger from these basic illnesses so it shouldnt be completely destroying his schedule whenever someone is sick
