It got even worse during the pandemic and after. Extreme zealotry has turned more and more people away from religion over the last few years. There's even a topic about how religious zealots feel Jesus was too woke now and are themselves turning away from religion. Organized religion is still the majority in America according to most polls, but that number has been dropping. However, when asked about God or a belief in a higher power irl, everyone I encountered either said they still believe in God despite no longer practicing their religion, or they believe that there is possibly a higher power out there. The latter, I can only go by people in my area (which was a lot), but I imagine the results are similar in other areas. --- --I understand your opinion.
