Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom are facing a court battle this month to settle a long-running dispute with an 83-year-old homeowner who is said to be in seriously ill health.

The A-list couple, who are engaged and share a two-year-old daughter, have attempted to purchase a sprawling $15million (11.8million) mansion in Santa Barbara, California which they made an offer for in 2020.

Their dispute involves army veteran Carl Westcott, 83, who moved into the property just two months before he allegedly agreed to the sale. Another man, business manager Bernie Gudvi who represented the couple during the sale, is listed as the primary defendant in the lawsuit. Perry and Bloom are not listed as parties but they are mentioned within the lawsuit.

Westcott who was 80 years old at the time claims a July 14, 2020 contract for the sale of the home was done when he lacked the mental capacity to understand the nature and probable consequences of the contract.

Agents for Perry, 38, and Bloom, 46, allegedly said they would sue the ailing man if he did not proceed with the sale.

Westcott is in poor health and was diagnosed with Huntingtons disease a condition that damages nerve cells in the brain causing them to stop working properly in 2015.
Court documents obtained by the Daily Mail and New York Post, state that less than a week before the contract was presented, Westcott underwent a major six-hour surgery. According to the pensioner, the surgery seriously impaired [his] mental facilities to the point he was of unsound mind and not competent to give his free, voluntary, or intelligent consent to the contract.

Basically the couple got a veteran to sell his house to them, however he was under the influence of post surgery meds and agreed to sell while impaired. When he got his head back, the vet wanted to back out of the sale. Bloom and Perry are now suing the guy...

My question is, why was it signed to begin with if the vet wasn't in a sound state of mind? A sale of this nature would have all kinds of parties involved. Something doesn't add up.

Definitely a matter for the court. We dont know if its an excuse for having a change of heart or wanting to sell it at a higher price since market has changed so much.

We cant just go "ooh poor old vet", cause you looking at it from an emotional pov.

I support the right to sue if you signed a contract and it caused harm.

But I refuse to believe this caused them any notable harm.

This is just throwing their money around to victimize people.

Its not trying be mean, but what the truth of the matter is. If it shown that the 83 y/o is correct then Kat and Orlando should GTFO. And I do agree that its a shitty look for them just to be involved and wonder how their PR/managers dont tell them to drop it.

Frankly they should be told to fuck off, they don't need multiple properties.

You're not obligated to have a lawyer or a real estate agent. It's a very good idea for obvious reasons, but nothing forces you to. If their lawyers wrote up a contract and he signed it, that's all it takes.

If what he says is true, they likely fleeced him for far less than the property is actually worth and while they could move anymore else, they likely don't want to give up whatever deal they got on the property.

What I'm unclear on is whether he was even trying to sell the house. The article says he moved in 2 months before the offer was made, so it seems a little odd. Like it kinda just sounds like they rolled up and offered to buy his house out of the blue, and he signed the contract without being able to fully understand what was going on.

And why fight this for 3 years when they can just go buy another house? That doesn't even seem worth it

Devil's Advocate here, but I really don't care.

If the guy is selling his home and land for $15 million, he's rich too.

And he's the only one claiming he was "under the influence". It could be as simple as he sold in 2020 before the housing market starting booming, and his holding them up for more money.

There's potentially no "good" side on this one.

All that means is that they didn't personally put the lawsuit forth, it's being done through the agencies that represent them, likely to avoid having to show up for court cases and have their names tied to a lawsuit revolving around suing an 82 year old vet to take his house, when they are literally millionaires who could go anywhere else.
