Because there are more legal protections for candidates than voters.

Because we need felony status in order to keep a second class of citizenry but not for the ones who are making said class.

I agree that felons, both in and out of prison, should be allowed to vote.

And run for office.

I've actually read it! I remember taking issue with some of the uses of data at parts, but overall it was very good

The obvious answer is that its to prevent politicians blocking their political opponents from power by convicting them of phony charges. This actually happens in a lot of countries around the world.

The leading opposition candidates will have charges appear out of nowhere that block them from running for office.

Reminder Trump tried to have Biden arrested when he was losing

Because laws barring felons from voting can be combined with a war on drugs that disproportionately targets minorities.

I mean, the supreme law of the land was written by people who thought that if you didnt have a penis and a pasty white complexion, you werent allowed to vote either, but it doesnt say that those same people couldnt run.

Voting rights have always been more exclusive than the ability to run for office. I guess they assumed only rich white men would actually win elections if rich white men were the only ones who could vote.
