Honestly I'm not sure. On one hand, it would ensure that I never have to work again. But on the other hand, it would make it hard to trust anyone that found out I won the lotto. There have been people killed by their own family over that shit.

So assuming no one tries to murder me, yeah I'd be living it up on that.

My happiness, or lack thereof, has more to do with me than my income, but it could definitely make it easier to deal with the things that make me unhappy. That said, it's kind of crazy how many states don't give an option for lottery winners to remain anonymous, like you are required to invite crazy people into your life if you happen to win.

Money absolutely buys happiness, but the rub is that it doesn't buy all the happiness that one may want or need.

That being said, you're objectively better off and more prone to being happy if you can afford anything you want and have no meaningful financial worries.

I've had this conversation with my wife. We both agreed to never tell a single person and slowly upgrade aspects of our life. Like pay off our mortgage and start building our forever home. We also plan to keep working cause we both really enjoy our jobs. That'll also keep people from asking questions.

Maybe if I could deal with the crap ton of family, freinds and associates of mine and theirs begging for money without damaging our relationship.

Honestly that's probably the most difficult aspect of winning so much money. And what people mean when they say it can't buy happiness because it can very easily destroy your family overnight. And no amount of money tbh can repair it at that point. Or at least I've never heard of it doing so.

If i did I would get them all together and say just once dont ask again. They get to plead their case. Some would get it no question. My brother for instance would go through it in days on Hookers and blow. And has anger issues ( already tried to set my father on fire). I think I would set up charity foundations for issues that my late friend cared about. I would buy my farm back. And set up a college fund for a friends daughter. We got along well when she was younger and use to call me her uncle. I'd have to keep it away from her Great Aunt, who I despise. Evil Woman

Dont talk to anyone, or consult any friends or family, about what they want or why they want it. There have been successful lawsuits before where for example, a family member was consulted but not everyone got to plead their case as you put it, which was the impetus for a lawsuit alleging undue influence about how to decide who gets what, etc. Dont buy houses or cars for anyone, and never give out cash for anything.

Probably the best thing you can do to head it off and mitigate or prevent unforeseen consequences is to immediately decide how much youre going to allocate for friends and family as one lump sum, setup in a trust. 10, maybe 20% of your winnings. If youve won $100 mil payout after taxes, thats a very generous $10+ million dollars. This can be structured to pay for higher education, medical expenses, down payments on a new home, funerals, weddings, etc. and that way it doesnt disappear at a casino or something.

Once you start giving out money or cash in a situation like that, it will never end and there will be a point when you have to say no, at which point they will say youre a selfish greedy bastard who doesnt care, so on and so forth. It wont end well.
