There have been successful lawsuits before where for example, a family member was consulted but not everyone got to plead their case as you put it, which was the impetus for a lawsuit alleging undue influence about how to decide who gets what, etc. Dont buy houses or cars for anyone, and never give out cash for anything. Probably the best thing you can do to head it off and mitigate or prevent unforeseen consequences is to immediately decide how much youre going to allocate for friends and family as one lump sum, setup in a trust. 10, maybe 20% of your winnings. If youve won $100 mil payout after taxes, thats a very generous $10+ million dollars. This can be structured to pay for higher education, medical expenses, down payments on a new home, funerals, weddings, etc. and that way it doesnt disappear at a casino or something. Once you start giving out money or cash in a situation like that, it will never end and there will be a point when you have to say no, at which point they will say youre a selfish greedy bastard who doesnt care, so on and so forth.
