Denji is absolutely a loser, but he's got serious conviction and that dichotomy creates some great character dynamics with the rest of the cast.

EDIT: and to be clear, when I say he's a loser I don't just mean to the reader. The cast has little respect for him either, and half the people he meets have no problem using him for their own goals.

Mega Man would never stoop to these lows. He is too diligent and focused to end up in that kind of situation.
The closest thing Mega Man has to passions are shit like throwing leaves at evil fans and shooting rocket powered drills at frogs.

Well thus far the best he's gotten is a drunk girl threw up in his mouth, a girl who actually liked him tried to kill him, the girl he really likes ended up using him the hardest, and the girl most like him ends up getting a bad end.

Its gotten to the point where he's now aware that he's easily taken advantage of and gave a whole big speech to the most recent girl trying to take advantage of him about how he's grown and won't just do anything for sex anymore, except the whole big speech was all in his head as he was debasing himself in front of said girl because she offered him a handjob in an empty theater.

Then they went to karaoke and she sang death metal while he beat up a bunch of guys with bats like it was a scene out of Daredevil season 1.

EDIT: Like... you set up the basic premise well enough, but the series and author is explicitly aware of that premise and plays on those tropes and themes quite well.

Series feels kind of dull since it came back. The first part had more of a schizophrenic feeling reminiscent of Fire Punch where things keep shifting , but it feels a lot more structured now.

Wasn't swordman the son of that Yakuza guy from Part 1 of Chainsawman?

Mega Man kind of has a chainsaw too. After he beats Nitro Man he gets this spiky wheel he holds at the end of his buster. Lets him zoom up walls.

And instead of being the degenerate, he beats up degenerates like Bright Man and Awakened Zero and Square Machine.

Why is Sword Man back anyway? He was kinda meh in Mega Man 8.

How? Denji is open and honest he's a kid who wants to get laid. He's got deep rooted psychological issues. He really just wants to feel something. Anything. The series goes out of it's way to show him as not so mentally well. It doesn't help the girl he loves was was really a devil grooming him. Once he outlived his usefulness she pulled a Griffith on him and murdered all the friends he made. She never once felt anything about him.

It's really refreshing because you don't have a shounen protagonist that's motivated to get stronger, he's not motivated to do the right thing, he's not motivated to be some sort of village chief or demon king, the dude just wants to get laid. And instead of rewarding his efforts by giving him some sort of harem to manipulate, the story constantly reinforces how he just sorta sucks as a person and the women that actually do give him the time of day are aware of how pathetic he is and take advantage of him so they can fulfill their own ends. The world of Chainsaw Man isn't a quirky, happy-go-lucky world where everything works out just fine in the end. It's one where the protagonist and everyone around him are constantly just finding some of the worst in humanity while exhibiting some of those awful characteristics themselves.

It's really all just emblematic of the mangakas writing style. He does the same exact thing to another protagonist of his in Fire Punch. This dude loves making his protagonists go through hell and just seeing what kind of story comes out of it.

Just got caught up on the manga. I'm really liking this series.

God I gotta read and watch this. Chainsaw Man sounds like my spirit animal >_>
