Current specs:

GTX 1050ti
i5 8300h
16GB DDR4 RAM
128GB SSD, 1TB HDD

Thinking of bumping it up to 32GB RAM and replacing the HDD with a 2TB SSD

I got it nearly five years ago and its still running smoothly, but figure at some point the GPU/CPU arent going to cut it anymore for most modern stuff, so is it even worth it to make these upgrades or should I just set that aside to use toward a brand new laptop?

imo just the ssd alone is a nice yet affordable upgrade. save the money for another laptop.

I personally would get a new laptop cos you can't upgrade the gpu so it'd be wasted effort down the line unless you really don't care for playing the newer games with lag. speaking from having a normal 1050 it just couldn't keep up for some games I like, like genshin at optimal performance

SSD, sure but with those specs you won't take advantage of additional ram.

The SSD is well worth it. I wouldn't bother with the RAM though. Go 32GB if you upgrade to a new machine though.
