...And then Phantom Ganon showed up.

Phantom Gabon is really easy as long as you dont panic. You can farm him for weapons.

Good. You will get great weapons starting early on.

He killed me the first time he showed up since I was really not expecting that and had T1 armor and shit weapons
You can just cheap him out with a thrusting weapon though if you want, get several hits in then just back up as he starts to attack (without even trying to get the timing right)

Honestly, the hands are much harder than Phantom Ganon himself imo. Hate those things.

Gloom Hands are great, but they'll never replace the fear of having 2 or more Guardians chasing/homing their lasers on you.

First gloom hands encounter I was more afraid that theyd kill my horse.

Okay, yeah, you guys were right. I just fought him again and beat him.

But he also seemingly just gave up as I was taking off the last 1/3 of his health.

Those weapons are strong but fragile. The sword, spear and hammer do better fused to another weapon than they do on their own or as a base for something else.

The bow gets stronger the more heart containers you've got, capping at 60 damage.

It's fun learning the parry timing for Phantom Ganon's attacks. Lynels as well. Parrying in general seems to be more generous than it was in BOTW, but I don't know if that's actually true or I just got better at it.

As for the Hands, I've only ever used a single strategy to defeat them and have never tried anything else. And that would be spamming Dazzlefruit and bomb arrows. Never even seriously attempted to engage them with melee.

Those damn Gloom Hands freaked me the hell out the first time I saw them.

and the second time. and the third time. and the fourth time. and the... [you get the idea]

I was taking the original path to Goron City. The trail that leads into a cave, one randomly spawned. Freaked me out.

The Phantom Ganon is extremely underwhelming compared to the hands, and the hands only suck to fight until you realize it's way easier to just chuck bombs at them compared to trying to melee them like you would almost anything else on the ground.

I seriously don't know how to fight them without bombs.

I gotta disagree here. My first encounter with Gloom Hands went thusly: "Oh, I'm just walking along the Hyrule plains, minding my own business, sure is a pleasant sunny day...wait, what's that weird glowing puddle heading my way...oh geez, it's like a nightmare Wallmaster or something, moving fast, better run away...oh god the sky's gone blood-red and the music just turned sinister AHHHH CLIMB CLIMB CLIMB GET AWAY GET AWAY OH HOLY GOD WHY IS IT RAINING ALL THE SUDDEN AAAAAAGGGGHHHHH *Ded* Intimidating as the Guardians could be at times, they never made an impression on me quite like that.

I avoided them like the plague whenever I saw them, but I got ambushed by one around a treasure chest in the Depths and was forced to finally beat it, even if my strategy was just 'mash and mash and mash until the screaming stops.' Phantom Ganon rising out of the ooze was certainly a surprise, but thankfully he's much more manageable imo.

I really wish that at some point, the phantom ganon that spawns would start turning into buff gdorf and engage in the ol tennis match

You know what's better than bombs? Rubies. Rubies do such an incredible amount of damage to monsters, it's insane.

I really hate the hands.

Until today I have not found a single way to even harm them with "skill", only with fusing shit to arrows and nuke them back to the hell they came from. And better do that ASAP as soon as they are in sight, because if they get close you are in more trouble than they are worth.

Meanwhile, Phantom Ganon can "just" be dodged and punished with patience and timing. If you get hit, you know exactly why, and what you should have done instead.
