I abhor the death penalty, but the argument that it is too expensive compared to life imprisonment confuses me. How much does a bullet cost? How much does it cost to house and feed a prisoner for multiple decades?

Which is probably why a death penalty if utilized should be only for those who are 100% guilty of such a severe crime with no doubts or reserved for cases like this.

The way I see if is people probably wouldnt be upset if the cops killed him during the shooting. So for this sort of case the morality of getting the death penalty is a weird one.

Or just life. No need to add torture to the mix.

I was a bit more descriptive in how it would work, but that was the gist of it. I was merely echoing the sentiments of Chief Justice Robert Jackson at Nuremberg.

It is not humane to put someone to death.

It is much more humane to strip someone of all their rights, force them to comply to a routine of your choice and lock them in a cage until they die anyway.

Should probably look at other countries like Japan for how it's used. It's only really used for mass murderers. So it's not enough to just simply have killed someone as a murderer. You have to intend to kill multiple people. It's not the best, but having it have very rigid reasons for it.

And then there's Norway, who sentenced Anders Breivik within the normal confines of the law even though he deserved worse, because it's what was best for society.

Despite the sentence, it could be years before an execution takes places in light of the Department of Justices moratorium on capital punishment.

Anders is an outlier with no remorse who must be kept away from the public for safety. Do you know his legal defense for what he did was "self defense"?

Most people in prison in Norway do not spend life behind bars. The super 100% turbo guilty mass murderer standard people are suggesting the death penalty for is actually Norway's standard for getting what Anders got. Not death.

Norway has one of the Lowest recidivism rates in the world.
