For what it's worth, I was working 75 hours a fortnight - ten unpaid 30 minute breaks making up the other 5 hours, with 15 minute paid breaks every single day - for over a year and a half. I work at a commercial laundry where everything is done by hand, so it's been immensely physical work; I get tendonitis in my ankles so bad I can barely walk some mornings.

On paper, losing the hours is bad - and I do have a drinking problem which can make it hard to save money, so the more paid work, the better. I'm gonna need to make drastic changes if only to make sure my savings kept growing from paycheck to paycheck. Once my birthday is over (it's next week) I'm gonna stop drinking for a while.

But on the upside, I get a day off every two weeks. That helps a lot with the tendonitis, and it just generally helps me live a more fulfilled personal life. I was working eight hours a day, for forty hours every week, for a year and a half. Now I have some time to unwind and be myself.

Also, since I'm permanent part-time, I still accrue holidays and sick pay. Worst case scenario, I plan out a week or two of holidays, stock up on frozen meals and live like a mountain man while I get a fat paycheck. AND I'm basically last on the chopping block, should people start losing their jobs, behind my bosses and ahead of our casual workers/earlier hires.

So yeah I'm griping that I'm losing money. It sucks. But the actual message in the OP is true as well - I'm looking forward to having a day off every two weeks

Nevermind you guys were right, the fuckers just cut 22 of my hours per fortnight AND made sure I was working five days a week, just on reduced hours.

I was sad to see the money go but I was being glib about receiving a day off. Then the day I take off, they cut over quarter of my hours. This fucking bites.

Okay, false alarm. I am working shorter days, but the hours were formatted really poorly.

I'm still losing an extra day, as is everyone else, but at the same time everyone else is losing those hours and it's a whole day less than I thought I had lost. Still though, this is really concerning.
