Long story short, started talking to this old lady at work and eventually she tells me she's 91 and her husband across from her is 93. I mention that my grandparents died recently at 89/91, and congratulated both of them for making it so long.

She told me, "Oh I'm ready to go. The world has become such a wicked place; it's not how it used to be when we were growing up"

And all I could think about is how when she was growing up there was legalized segregation and very blatant blind eyes to racial killings, so I wonder exactly what she was missing...

So, anybody else have stories of extremely out of touch elderly people they'd like to share?

People were kinder to each other. White people were, anyway. A great many of them were less kind to Black or Asian people but they were kinder to each other. Today, a lot of people are jerks who justify being dicks by pulling a, "Well, at least I'm not bigoted."

If you don't give a fuck about what happens to other people, a world where people are kinder to their own is preferable to a world where everyone is a jerk. If you care about what happens to other people, you're probably better off in an asshole generation than one run by bigots. But don't worry, we're heading toward a "worst of both worlds" scenario.

Ya, she was white, so I pretty much already knew what she meant lol. It's just crazy being so informed on past atrocities and hearing people mourn the loss of "better times", when those times were most definitely not better.

Eh, I dunno about that. Gen Z is the most educated and racially diverse generation according to a Pew Research article I read a few years ago, along with how openly they accept minority groups they don't represent and how openly they will speak in defense of them when people are being ignorant bigots. I think we'll have that + the older generation that realizes they're a dying breed and will kick and scream their final gasp of relevancy as the natural progression of society outdates them. The worst part is unfortunately those who hold power and can legislate that into being, which is where we see this Christo-fascism kick coming from.
