Not really, though, let's all get along and not fight. But yeah, I went into it expecting to drop it from all the hate I've seen, but I loved it a lot. I only have Inquisition left now but I'm taking a BG3 break.

DA2 has the best cast of characters in the trilogy
everyone is so hilarious with some great character moments
i particularly like how the friendship/rivalry system worked
basically the friendship path is a kissass who encourages the party members worst traits while the rival calls them on their bullshit and forces them to improve

its main flaw is how much they reuse the same 3 dungeons over and over and over and over again

I watched my gf play Dragon Age 2 earlier this year, and I thought it had a great cast of characters and a compelling story. The gameplay wasn't my style (which is why I just watched her play it instead of playing it myself), but I do love a good solid RPG story line with good side characters and subplots.

We started DA:O but we never got past the first half. I think she kinda made a mistake wanting to try it on the hardest difficulty. Because it turns out the hardest difficulty is...difficult.

We also played Inquisition, which I loved in terms of story and character, but the open-world, MMO-style quest gameplay (as well as the whole system of being forced to complete side quests to continue the main plot) kind of soured the experience. It turned into a much, much longer game than it needed to be.

But...that said...We're both really looking forward to Dreadwolf.

I personally thought Dragon Age was a bottom tier franchise with a more than usual painfully generic plot. Combat was absurdly complicated in the first, about the only amusing thing was the excessive blood during combat.

I really wish the series could get back to the gameplay of DA:O, with the scripts and commands you can set up for your party to follow, but I know that time is unfortunately long gone.

It's an okay game, which made it seem like a terrible game given Bioware's track record.

Also they had like 15 months to make it while also making the Awakening dlc for Origins.

Apparently similar things happened to ME Andromeda and Anthem. They had to scrap all their work and effectively start over with like 18 or less months to make a full game

Also snarky Hawke is a top tier video game character

Meh, i just struggled to get into it from the start. The whole gray warden thing was cringy and super cliche, the characters were caricatures not personalities and of course the combat was cumbersome.

Objectively it's a pretty big flaw. On a personal level it didn't hinder my enjoyment, though.

If you ever decide to go back to DAO, you can change the difficulty mid-game. I went from Normal to Easy after a while because I just really wasn't enjoying Origins combat and wanted fights over asap.

Does Inquisition get rid of the character tactics stuff, then? That's sad. I enjoyed the combat a lot more in II but I still liked making out directions for each companion.

It has a tactical mode that feels weirdly like Madden, top-down and whatnot.

Pretty sure you can fiddle with the AI but I'm not certain.

Lol, yeah...but don't tell my gf that, she'll take it as a challenge. "What, are you saying I can't beat it!? Just watch."

Then she'll proceed to wipe 14 more times on the same encounter, and I'll just have to sit here like this o_o as she becomes the most determined little gamer-gremlin the world has ever seen.

Pretty much completely. It lets you toggle whether you want your party members to be able to use individual skills autonomously, and lets you set certain ones to "preferred" usage, but that's it.

It still has the best combat in the series and if the developers had any brains, they'd go back to it in their next game instead of probably sticking with DA:I's combat(which I enjoyed, but not to the same degree).

Both were miles better than Inquisition which completely pooped the bed in my opinion.

My issue with DA2's combat is that it took tactics and threw it out the window. Not in the sense of the tactics menu I was talking about earlier, but in the sense of positioning and battlefield control.

In DA:O, you can set your party up in a choke point so the enemies have to go through your tank to get to the ranged members. In DA2, it doesn't matter where your party is, because half of the next wave of enemies is going to just spawn behind you regardless.

Yeah, that's something I noticed while she was playing, too. It seemed like every encounter was just 35 enemies spontaneously appearing in all corners of the room to surround the squishies no matter how strategic the positioning was.

Also Varric really liked running up the stairs and around corners to chase down one single enemy, and then getting promptly surrounded. Bro, you have a crossbow what are you doing!? Just shoot him!

I suppose it's easier to enjoy now that we're so far removed from when it was new, but man was it controversial in its heyday.

DA:O is the superior game, but I had no problem playing DA2, even replayed it quite a bit. Repeating/reused rooms do get tiring tho.

omg Merrill liked doing that, too. And I often had them both in my party. I learned I had to babysit them and make sure they didn't wander too far off into some stupid shit and get killed.

I love it as well, despite all its faults.

Most which come from rushing it out. With more time and willingness to push back against 'higher ups' they could have fixed the reuse of areas, enemies spawning in from thin air and the nonsensical boss at the end of one path.

Otherwise it has many good points. Great cast, great voice acting and a story indefinitely enjoyed.

for real. I thought an Origins replay was completely off the table for me until I found a Deep Roads skip mod. That'll save it, alongside the Fade skip one.

That's how I feel as well. The companions in 2 were soooo amazing, all of them, even the troubling ones like Anders. In Origins I loved Alistair and Leliana, found Morrigan intriguing, and that's it. I actually liked Awakening companions more than Origins ones, too. Except Oghren.

It's worse in some ways but I won't agree on the "every single way" part. It feels like you and I don't see eye to eye often haha. makes convos more interesting though.
