Just over the past decade.

"Data from the General Social survey indicates that around 23% of men aged 18-30 reported abstaining from sex in the past year. The percentage of young men abstaining increased from 10% in 2008 to 28% in 2018, while women reported slightly better numbers."

Suspected factors seem to be prolonged living at home, influence of social media, video games and other distractions. All this goes hand in hand with the "rise of the alpha male" influencers like Tate. What worries me most is that a lot of them resent this and are turning to misogynists that lay all the blame on women instead of trying to help themselves. All these kids that go and spend money on those only sites and them complain they dont want a girl with "high body count". Well guess what, NOBODY wants a person that doesnt take care of themselves, plays video games all day. Sure its more complicated than that, and the actual economy also plays a big part. Hard to feel confident when you dont have a decent paying job, have no place to yourself at a later age or just no positive outlook for the future. But first of all...work on yourselves before blaming women.

I see numbers and my brain haywires. In 2008 it was 10 percent, in 2018 it was 28 percent, in the last year it's down to 23 percent. Seems like it's declining at least. Covid probably didn't help.

Yeah, sorry. I couldnt find the study so I was quoting what I read. It also said the peak was 2018 which kinda deflates my idea that those amateur sites are making it worse.

But google male virginity on the rise and there plenty of recent studies talking about it. It isnt a secret with the recent behavior weve seen.

Over time, social networking has completely destroyed the ability to interact in real life. If you're under 30 years old, it means you've spent most, if not all, of your life starting from elementary school where people were communicating via live journal, myspace, and later Facebook.

Unless you have some sort of mitigating factor like a disfigurement or disability, its kind of like this:

If somebody doesnt want to sleep with you, it might not be your fault.

If nobody wants to sleep with you, its almost certainly your fault.

It's basically right in line w/ the rise in prominence of dating apps, especially ones like Tinder where looks is all that matters.
There's been OK Cupid and other sites doing surveys where women find 80% of men to be "below average" and how utterly massively skewed matches received are for men vs. women. Seems like dating has turned into feast or famine for men. I'm glad I'm out.

"Distractions"? What a bunch of bull shit. The distractions are the result of the dudes not being able to get a partner, not the cause.
And yeah, the pick up artist grifters are disgusting, preying upon guys who are miserable and desperate and filling their heads w/ that shit.
If you think there's an outcome where a huge amount of young adults want sex and companionship and can't find it and DON'T get upset about it though, you're delusional. I think we should just legalize prostitution. *shrug*

I really dont see how legalising prostitution is a solution to this.

Dont get me wrong, Im not opposed to legalising it if it makes it safer for the workers.

I'm 45 and it's baffling to me that the numbers are going DOWN, considering social media lets you cast a wider net than ever.

When I was in my 20's, your choice was basically the two dozen girls that happen to stroll into the same bar as you on a Friday night. You now have literally hundreds of women to choose from on various dating apps.

In my 20's I was grossly overweight and was still living at home, and I had a fairly decent "success rate". Are guys just more picky now? Or are the women they're looking for are more picky? Or are they just not trying?

Im preeeeetty damn sure that the rise of video games has A LOT to do with these. Cause if your enjoying life in your fantasy world why even look outside, right? Except thats not really healthy and addictions are just masking underlying emotional problems. I missed so much of life over playing so much in my teen years. Even passed invitations to go out and thats how you mainly have the chance of knowing someone, exposure.

It's because people on dating apps and social media are kinda fucked up. With a wider net comes a market where people dating are now looking for people to reject rather than looking for someone to get along with.

Which has led to people shooting for way higher than they can actually score. Which in turn had led to a lot of people being alone.

It's both. Guys and girls are pickier and dumber about dating. And when you roll your eyes at them, they try to gaslight you for their narcissistic tendencies.

Is this "abstaining" or "not having". The former is a direct choice and I doubt anyone's resenting people for a direct personal choice they made

The online dating world has a lot of logistical problems that if anything, the wider net makes worse. The swipe format makes it incredibly easy to see others as a product or a checklist, and the wider net can create a lot of frustration. I often see women complain about how many awful matches they have to go through, while its almost a meme about how men swipe everything

How do you explain Japan's massive declining birth rate?

There CAN BE multiple causes for a phenomenon. You don't have to lay it all at the feet of your 1 preferred scapegoat.

Yes, men can be partly to blame. It's ok to accept that.

If you're not throwing it, then it's your friends, which literally would mean it contradicts your first point of a person that isn't financially secure throwing parties.

I guess conservative people are more basic on this? Like they have less of an issue with settling down and having a family. While some liberal women will try to advance their education as much as they can and then be very picky about their partner. I guess it depends on where you as well. A female friend of mine was single for a good while cause it took her some time to find a decent non conservative man in a more rural area of FL.

No. No they don't. I grew up poor. And I can assure you, we did not throw parties constantly. There may have been like 1 per year. Your statements are all over the place dude. They throw parties when they are poor by being in a social group with someone that isn't poor... Like what are you even trying to say here?

Furthermore, simply having a party doesn't make you have sex.

Like what are you even trying to argue here aside from "you're wrong about something, of which I haven't figured it out yet."

Yes it is. I don't know how you could possibly argue that a person that would have less free time would have a harder time meeting people. Especially when they have less money to casually spend.

I grew up on a massive council estate. My parents kicked me out at 16 and I had to be self sufficient immediately. I also live in Hanoi, where there is poverty that would shock most users on this board.

I very much understand what its like to be poor. Just because my experience of it was different to yours, doesnt make it less valid.

My experience has shown me that there are plenty of poor people who are capable of having a wide social circle and having plenty of sex.
