Just in the last 100 years, the 30s and the 60s were more toxic. People were straight up killed by the state and private thugs for trying to unionize just before that period as well. You could be surveilled, interfered with, or killed for trying to improve society at all. We used to have a legally enforced racial apartheid system. america is still waging and losing the war on drugs. while society is constantly improving for almost everyone, we have regressions like with abortion rights going away for women despite that right being 50+ years old. it is definitely a better time to be a us citizen than it was in the past for p much everyone, but the political climate is at least more toxic and divided than it has been since the jim crow era. --- I am thinking about just walking into the river now that Megaupload is gone and condoms are in porn.-Fubonis ...
