I don't know why but I loved doing that stuff back in the day. Full on typed out scripts for IX, X, XII and DoC. I only submitted DoC's to gamefaqs, don't know why... probably was too late to do the other ones, I mean if someone had an early leaked/pirated copy of the game they'd have a head start on it.

All rendered pretty moot with the advent of youtube but still. I actually got a super nice e-mail about the FFX script just the other day, 20+ years later and still paying off!

Yeah, I haven't seen baron von toast, Funk, or Myth on B8 in forever, so I think we're the only ones still on this board, at least.

Text scripts are great for searching specific lines. I probably even looked for one of those games.

Legit good question, I feel like in leftyera it tops out and 2 or 3? And usually those are in the Day 90s.

I can confirm the following from when I ran it:
-contest XXI winner Lightning had 0 iron man appearances
-contest XXII winner Squall had 1 (Day 96)

Coincidentally the finalists both years (Edward and Delita respectively) had 5 iron man appearances apiece.

Checked the log site for XX when Inviso compiled them and looks like winner Fang and runner-up Cid P each had 2 apiece, all Day 90s:

Cid Pollendina (Round 92, Round 98)
Oerba Yun Fang (Round 93, Round 94)

Will let andy report on past two years, pretty sure they had iron man appearances outside the Day 90s in both cases. Good stats opportunity for stats-less round.

also for people who participated pre-contest XX, if you have memories of any past winners who suffered repeated close calls en route to their win...?

Yeah, generally speaking, eventual champions aren't hanging around at the end of rounds very often.

I'm pretty sure Kefka had 0. If he had one, it was the final day, but I think he was first saved there too.

Aerith was definitely Day 98, I remember because we were waiting for the ScrappyMatt (lol) appearance and he came in as the 25th, Kefka was already safe at that point.

That puts Ramza as the only Day 98er to win in leftyera.

Kefka I'm almost certain had a close call somewhere in the 40s or 50s... I'll check it now

Edit: wow I must have been mixing him up with the FFT finalists or thinking of a previous year - in XXI he had an iron man appearance Day 45 - but you are indeed correct, zero iron mans for Kefka in his victory year!

Yeah I remembered Kefka for sure had 0 iron mans one year, figured it was the year he won but I wasn't 100% sure if it might have been one of the other top 10s.

I know the year Zidane won he had at least one, in the round Tifa was eliminated. It was down to those two and Beatrix, FFD saved "Trix" and I instantly reacted by saving Zidane, seeing the capital T and 4 total letters including an i.

I also remember saving Marche to eliminate Relm in the year he won. It was a misguided attempt to concentrate the FF6 fanbase on Kefka and Ultros that I still regret to this day.

So you're telling me there's an alternate timeline where Relm beat Lightning in a finals.

Or maybe Ultros wins

Either way, we're better off with Marche having won

Need context behind this plz. Did final day come down to Ultros vs Marche/Lightning and raytan saved the non-Ultros option? Or was that moreso a comment on general fuckery during those days preventing a legitimate Ultros finals run?

raytan started setting round times at the end of CXIII, and the top three round got delayed past that time to a time when the Ultros savers were conveniently all no longer available

otherwise the final would have been Marche/Ultros

Marche/Ultros was one of the worst possible finals with what was left. There were still duds like Snow and Porom around after the reveal, but they didn't even get close to the end. Out of the top 10, the only worse possible final was Marche/Relm. Honestly, you all should've gone for Marche/Terra just to rub it in on raytan, but I understand if that was too risky.

Marche was the representation of chaos in general, while Ultros was the in-contest chaos pick because he was originally lawyered out, but raytan was convinced to disallow it, so b8anime thought it would be funny if he went on to win after that

presumably raytan decided to kill Ultros because the b8anime crew had all the people who helped expose him (primarily Zea and me)

Well if there's numbers to crunch I must crunch them.

Would you believe there have only been 75 characters to ever make the SMFFFC top 10? 240 opportunities to finish top 10 to date but just 75 have fit that bill.

To arrive at 100 we would need to put any character who ever made the top 18 (including ye olde raytan days when there were 40, 45, 50 etc in total), and coincidentally the top 18 from every contest would give us exactly 100 characters. Though note it also includes 2 Bravely Default characters but hey, fair is fair, they finished top 18 at one point...
